Chapter 208: An Introductory Dinner

Calmly Julian replied, "Oh, her name is..."

"Brooke! What are you doing here?" A voice called out, drawing Brooke’s attention to the person she had come to see, Dylan.

Scott heaved a relieved sigh as he watched her excuse herself from their conversation and head over to someone else. Had that kid not intervened, he was considering causing a scene of some sort, just so his plan would not be uncovered.

To Scott, Julian asked, "Who is that she’s here to see?" He frowned, recalling the harsh way he called out to her.

Taking the form off the desk, he gestured Julian over to the elevator, "Let’s not bother them, these kids have so many friends I can’t keep track of them all." he said watching Brooke walk down the hallway with her companion.

Sarah rolled her eyes, watching her brother squirm was such a pitiful sight. But then, she felt a prick of guilt, she could stop all this by just saying a few words.

It was so simple, and yet...

"Sarah, why don’t you show our guest to Cassie’s room? She’s probably worried that no one’s with her." Scott said, gesturing his sister to lead Julian away. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"And where are you headed to?" Julian inquired, "Aren’t you going to stay back and wait for your daughter?"

Forcing a laugh he replied, "I have somethings to do, some people to meet, I haven’t been in the country for a while, I’ll meet up with her later." He said hoping to place an end to the conversation.

But he didn’t expect Julian to say, "Arrange a dinner tonight with her."

Sarah and Scott exchanged quick glances, why was this man so fixated with Brooke?

Scott scratched his chin, "But why would we-"

He cut him off, "Cassie is getting discharged today, she and Brooke are cousins aren’t they? I’d like to have a formal dinner with her and her husband, and maybe her mother if she’s still in the picture."

Her husband?

Sarah looked like she had seen a ghost, she would’ve asked questions, but Julian walked over to the elevator, dismissing the conversation.

In a low tone she whispered, "What husband? What is he talking about-"

"Shut up! Just go over there and stay with him! Keep me updated with everything that happens, and make sure that brat Cassie keeps her mouth shut!" he scolded before storming out of the hospital in an angry frenzy.

Brooke had never seen Scott look so shaken up before, neither could she push back the nagging feeling at the back of her mind. She was so enveloped in her thoughts that she didn’t mind Dylan’s harsh words.

It wasn’t until they reached a hospital room that her senses came back fully. She took a proper look at Dylan, who looked shaken up despite his words sounding so harsh.

She wanted to ask who he was visiting, but she got her answer when he pushed open the hospital door and her gaze fell on the older woman admitted.

Brooke could tell at first glance that the woman was younger than she looked, but her condition was severe.

"My elder sister." He explained, saying so much with so little words.

Brooke closed the door behind her, "I’m so sorry, how is she holding up? Is there anything you need me to do?"

Dylan clicked his tongue, "Yes, I’d like for you to stay out of my personal life. We are coworkers on this project, but that’s all. Don’t show up unannounced again."

Swiftly she responded, "I apologize, I would’ve called but you weren’t responding to anyone, we were all worried about you back on set."

He rolled his eyes, "Did the director put you up to this? If so, tell him that I’m fine, I don’t need him or you of all people worrying over me."

Her of all people?

"I don’t understand, I’m really worried about you, I know how it feels being helpless, trust me I really do. So please feel free to confide in me-"

Dylan hissed, "Someone who hasn’t had to work for a single thing wouldn’t know the first thing about being helpless." He turned to her his gaze harsh, "If being in this film is just a game for you, step back and let people who actyallyneed the money work."

Hearing those words Brooke the camel’s back, Brooke had wanted to be patient with him because he was younger and had a sick family member. But she could see that he wouldn’t tide over no matter how kind she was to him.

Folding her arms she asked, "And just what do you think you know about me? That I was involved in a scandal with Cassie? That I used to work for her? That I’m jealous of her? Is that it? Is that enough to judge me as a person? I’m every much as serious about this film as everyone else! So I’ll ask, what the hell do you actually know about me?"

She thought her words would make him falter but he responded calmly, "You’re really such a good actress. Is fooling around with the sponsor not enough to judge you? Or do you think you’ve been discreet with your relationship?"

Brooke’s anger dissipated, "Sleeping with the sponsor? What are you insinuating-"

He cut her off, "I’ve that man drop you off and pick you up in that expensive car of his from the set. It wasn’t hard to put two and two together to know he’s the one who let you land this role."

She pinched her temples, this kid was something else. She looked at his sister, her heart sunk, he must’ve had to go through a lot to end up with such a nasty personality.

But she remembered him helping her with Damien, he couldn’t be a bad kid totally, he must’ve had to face some things earlier than he needed to.

"Dylan," she tried in a softer tone, "My personal life isn’t enough to judge me. If you want to have an opinion on me, then don’t you think it should be on my acting skills instead?"

He rolled his eyes, "You can’t even block properly-"

She cut him off, "I made a mistake, but I’ve learned from it." She looked him square in the eye, brimming with confidence. "The next time we step on set together, it won’t be the same."

Dylan scoffed, "Whatever." He looked away, avoiding Brooke’s piercing gaze. He felt his cheeks burn from looking at her so closely, because no matter how he despised her he couldn’t stop the pounding in his chest whenever he looked at that ’damned’ woman.

The woman who was so annoying and yet so beautiful...
