Chapter 193: The Baby’s Father

Considering Serena’s mental state, her sister Sarah had to speak with Cassie’s managerial team from the agency.

"How could you let this happen? My niece is under your care, how did her admission and the pregnancy result go viral?" Sarah demanded scrolling through the negative comments splattered across the company’s main account.

She hissed, "In the first place why was no one with her last night? The doctors said she collapsed from an overdose." She turned to the brunette whose eyes were glued to her screen, "Isn’t it your job to keep tabs on her?!"

Andrea, Cassie’s manager retorted sharply, "Cassie is the face of our company, why would anyone intentionally let her image get tarnished? I’m her manager only in name, president Luther manages her schedule and handles every single detail about her personal life." She folded her arms, her face pissed, "We’re the ones in deep shit if we can’t handle this scandal."

The social media manager sighed, "She’s right, the fan’s reaction has shifted from worry for her condition to anger over her pregnancy result. We’ve been getting calls and emails from sponsors looking to cancel her endorsement plans."

Sarah gasped, "And Luther? What about him? Has no one heard from him? She’s his daughter, he’s sure to come out of hiding." But the staff shook their head, Luther had not since made an appearance.

"What about the person who leaked the information? Have you caught them?"

Andrea shook her head, "It was an anonymous account."

"But it had to be someone working at this hospital, can’t we just sue the hospital for negligence?" Sarah suggested.

The crisis manager interjected, "That would mean us coming out and claiming the results are indeed true. As it stands with Cassie unconscious, president Luther on the run and Mrs Crane in poor mental state we can’t make a wrong move. Cassie’s pregnancy isn’t something we can cover up anymore."

The staff nodded, Sarah guessed they must’ve been brainstorming ideas the entire night. Perhaps, the reason they sought her out was because she was a family member.

Sarah reclined against door to the private room they had rented for this meeting, she inhaled sharply before she asked what she guessed was at the back of everyone’s mind.

"And the father? Who exactly is the child’s father?" she asked looking at Andrea.

Andrea looked around the room at the rest of the damage control team and she could tell they all thought the same thing. Facing Sarah she cleared her throat. "This was why we called you to this meeting, to see if you can get in touch with the father and have him make a statement."

A statement?

Sarah furrowed her brows, "I don’t think I understand-"

Devon, the lead publicist spoke up, "Mrs Crane had previously claimed that Cassie’s top sponsor was hiding a wife and child. If we can have him come out and claim Cassie as his wife, we could salvage her reputation to a high degree."

Sarah cocked her head, "A-And just who is this sponsor you’re talking about?"

Andrea sharply answered, "Mr Ethan Halton."

It took a few seconds for the words to settle in Sarah’s mind, she frowned as the realization sunk in.

"Wait a moment, you’re saying that Serena claimed Ethan Halton is..." she held her palm forward, unable to finish the sentence.

Andrea knitted her brows, "We thought you could share some insight. They were always so close, we all at the company assumed they were secretly dating." She walked over to Sarah and looked her straight in the eye.

"Please, if we want to salvage this business, Cassie’s image and all our jobs, we need Ethan Halton."

Jen felt her heart leap out of her chest with each passing second, how coincidental could it be that Cassie was admitted into the hospital and Ethan showed up at her doorstep covered in blood.

"Jen!" Oliver called out causing Ethan to turn.

Jen froze completely, if Ethan got up and saw Oliver, he would trace his connection to Avery in no time. He’d know she was plotting something and he might even...

"Why is your friend not leaving? Do I need to intervene?" Ethan whispered into her ear.

Jen shook her head, "Please, please I beg you, I’ll handle him-"

Ethan tightened his grip on her wrist, "Look at how you’re pleading like a bitch, does he matter that much to you?" he raised his tone, his aggravating voice left Jen weak in the knees.

"No, I just-"

She was cut off by Oliver’s holler from the door. "Jen! I just got an urgent text, I’ve gotta head out, I’ll catch you for drinks later?"

Swiftly she replied, "S-Sure!"

Ethan’s grip on her wrist did not let up until the sound of Oliver’s footsteps had completely disappeared. And even then, he got up and made for the door, thankfully, his phone rang, stealing his attention.

"I thought I told you to turn that off!" he barked at Jen.

She swiftly reached for the center table, "S-Sorry I..." she picked up the phone and glanced at the screen.

’Cleaner.’ She made a mental note of the contact right before Ethan yanked the phone out of her hand.

He gazed at the caller and made a deep frown. "Go, finish the laundry, then make me something to eat." He ordered shooing her away.

Jen nodded, "Yes, sir." She picked up the washed clothes and slowly left the room. However, the moment she stepped out Jen dashed for the elevator and rushed downstairs.

"Oliver!" she yelled at the parking lot, catching sight of him about to enter his car.

Oliver recognized her voice, "Jen, thank goodness!" he turned around and met her halfway. "I was worried something had happened to you-"

Jen dropped the laundry, she latched onto Oliver’s hands, her watery eyes went round in panic. "T-Take me away from here! Please Oliver! I’m scared."

"Calm down for a moment Jen-"

She shook her head. "He did it! I’m sure it’s him."

Oliver frowned, "What did he do? You’re not making any sense-"

She cut him off, tears streaming down the sides of her face. "He’s the one who landed Cassie in the hospital!"
