Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 168: Meeting Potential Suitors
Chapter 168: Meeting Potential Suitors
Mallory gripped her skirt under the table when an older man, no younger than her father walked into the private room, with his younger looking assistant in tow.
The woman had her hair ruffled and the first two buttons of her blouse ripped off, exposing the hickeys all over her skin.
He charged for the only table in the center of the room making Mallory straighten her shoulders. Upon arriving his eyes s carefully canned Mallory from top to bottom, and then contorted into a glare. "The Rosamunds are taking me too lightly, how dare they send such a frail little thing to be my wife?"
Mallory gulped, ’Has father lost his mind? He hooked me up with an old man? This must be a mistake.’ she reached for her phone to call him, but Vance’s words resounded in her head.
This wasn’t some sort of mistake, her family wanted her married off, as soon as possible.
"Hey, you." He called out, as his secretary pulled him a seat.
Mallory raised her gaze, "Yes?" Taking a closer look at the gray hairs sticking from his chin, she guessed he could be half a decade older than her father even.
"Are you sick or something?" He asked.
"P-Pardon?"
Her suitor hissed and folded his arms, "Don’t irritate me! I want to know if I’m being cheated here. Tell me, is it some terminal disease, I hope to hell it isn’t anything contagious!" he went on, confusing Mallory.
She knitted her brows into a tight frown, "I have slight anxiety but-"
He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. His secretary immediately reached into her pants back pocket and took out a lighter.
Blowing a thick cloud in her face he pointed the butt of the cigarette to her. "Don’t fuck with me girlie, you’re from a good background, you’re pale but not ugly and most importantly your family is wealthy. So tell me, why are we having this meeting like this?"
Mallory blinked twice, "Like what?"
The older man gazed at her with widened eyes, "You mean, you don’t know?"
Mallory was tempted to ask about what he was referring to, but a part of her was also afraid to hear what twisted thing her family had gone and done.
"That must have been awful, having poor Anna hurt her arm when her finals are so close." Joan, one of Sloane’s friends said, refilling her glass of wine.
Sloane wiped a tear away. "What’s even more unsettling is that Matthew has run away without facing the consequences for his actions. That damned brat!" she hissed.
Joan raised a brow, picking up her glass she retorted, "But what was Anna even doing with him that late at night? She used to be such an innocent little girl-"
"She still is." Sloane cut in sharply, displeased with her friend’s insinuation. ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Joan quickly cracked an apologetic smile. "Of course, don’t mind me, it must be all this wine." She laughed, but Sloane did not relax her features. To quell the mood, she cleared her throat and brought up another topic of discussion.
"Have you heard? The Rosamunds are at their wits end trying to secure a match for that hidden daughter of theirs."
Sloane sighed, then reclined into the sofa, she took a good look around the club room, which was reserved by her, specifically for this reason.
’I was waiting for this loose tongue bitch to finally crack.’ Following her intuition, Sloane was determined to find out what all there was to know about the Rosamunds and Mallory.
In response she said, "They tried to match the frail thing to my nephew, Thane. But father-in-law was able to see through them."
Joan laughed, "It’s much worse, did you hear that they’re actually paying suitors to meet her?"
Sloane blinked twice, "Paying men? I knew they were desperate, but to that extent? They’ll crush what little self esteem that girl has." She uncrossed and crossed her legs. "But, is there any suitor whose shown interest?"
Joan raised a brow, "Why? Are you maybe interested in claiming the money? Or is Maverick looking to marry?"
Shaking her head she refuted the claim, "My son is doing fine as the director of the hospital, in fact he’s in his grandfather’s good graces recently, he has no need for a marriage."
Joan laughed, "I’m just kidding, no need to get your panties in a twist." Her tone shifting she went on, "It seems that the Rosamunds want to get rid of that girl, it makes one wonder if she’s sick or something. Everything surrounding that girl is so mysterious."
Hopping on the conversation topic, Sloane asked, "Just like her sudden appearance, why would the Rosamunds keep their daughter away for so long?" she sat up straight, locking her gaze with Joan’s eyes.
She could tell the woman knew something, and was just dying to spill it. She prodded further, "And why did they have her stay with her aunt all this time? Were those sisters always so close?"
Joan shrugged her shoulders, "Come on! Don’t act like you don’t hear the rumors."
Sloane smiled, "Rumors? I don’t think I’ve heard any."
Joan scoffed, "Sloane, did you come here on that girl’s account?" she dropped the glass and pinched her chin, "Now my interest in her is raised even more. Tell me, just what’s so special about this Mallory girl?"
Seeing as she had been caught out Sloane went on, "That was what I was hoping you’d fill me in. Is there anything in particular about that family that sticks out?"
"Hmm, I don’t know. I’m so busy with my clothing line, that I don’t think I can remember." Joan said, her gaze pointed at the diamond ring sitting on Sloane’s pinky finger.
With a shrug, Sloane took off the ring and placed it on the coffee table. "Please, Joan, did you hear anything from a customer? From a party maybe?"
Raising the ring to her eyes, the corners of her mouth lifted into a grin. "Well, I might’ve heard something, about those sisters, Amanda and Rachelle, something that will pique your interest."
Sloane smiled as she reclined into the sofa, "Do tell."
