Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 156: Why Are You Helping me?
Chapter 156: Why Are You Helping me?
Brooke woke up only to find herself enveloped in Thane’s arms. Her cheeks flushed at the parts of his chest that peeked out of his buttons. She raised her gaze to Thane’s peaceful sleeping demeanor.
Her lips curved. He was the boy. The one from her childhood. The one person always on her side.
She reached to touch his face, to swat the hair in his eyes, but her phone rang, luring her out of the trance.
At first, she let it ring for a while, but when the caller kept blaring her phone, she slipped out of Thane’s hug and turned to take the call.
"He’s out like a light, that medicine must’ve tired him out completely." She thought while unlocking her phone. Before she could tap on contacts, the call from Scott came through.
Brooke’s eyes narrowed. Why was he calling so early?
She shook her head and answered, "Good morning, dad." She grimaced at the title. Until she found out the truth about her actual father, she planned on keeping the lie.
Or at least till Hannah found something on the man.
"Where the hell are you?!" he yelled.
Brooke balled her fist, "Why? What’s wrong-"
"You’re really Serena’s daughter aren’t you? I asked you to come pick me up at the hospital with your husband but you didn’t. Even now, you’ve been avoiding my calls!" he scolded harshly.
Brooke wanted to say, ’You’re really Serena’s brother, you’re both opportunists and classless liars.’ But she forced a polite tone and said instead, "I’ve been busy lately, and my husband has been even busier."
The last thing she wanted was Scott knowing anything about Thane or his health condition.
Scott hissed, "This girl, you’re really trying to get on your father’s nerves aren’t you? What busy? In your state you can’t even go anywhere. But it’s fine, as the older person I’ll make the first move."
Make the first move?
"Hey, what are you talking about-"
The sound of a sliding gate cut her off, followed by orderly footsteps marching over to him.
"Hey, dad-"
"I’m right outside your husband’s home. So you’d best come out and introduce me proper to the family." He sneered then ended the call.
Brooke’s eyes went round. "No, no, no." She turned to Thane, but he was still fast asleep, and looking peaceful.
She tried to call him back but he refused to answer any of her calls. "That crazy man! Why the hell is he so persistent?!" she connected her phone to her wheelchair and controlled it to the bed. She quickly got on it, and wheeled to the bathroom to change out of the sleeping clothes she had on.
In a matter of minutes she finished getting changed. She placed a call to Hannah to come pick her up, however, she was shocked when Matthew answered the call.
"Brooke, it’s Matthew."
Brooke arched her brows. "Matthew? Why are you with Hannah’s phone?!"
He hissed. "Don’t shout, I have a hangover."
"Where is Hannah?" Brooke asked, wheeling over to the elevator. Her heart racing, she didn’t want Scott and Thane’s grandfather meeting.
"She’s in the bathroom taking a shower." His groggy voice answered. "You sound distressed, what the hell is going on?"
"I need to get to the estate, and I need her to drive me there as soon as possible." Brooke explained, getting into the elevator. freewēbnoveℓ.com
"That won’t be possible. Right now, Hannah is...we’re a bit away from the city. It’ll take her about three hours to drive back." He explained.
"What?! Three hours?! Matthew, give Hannah the phone. I want to speak to her." Brooke pleaded. The elevator doors were about to close when a hand stretched out, keeping them apart.
After a bit of waiting, Matthew was able to get Hannah to the phone. But it was just as Matthew had said. Hannah vaguely explained that she was with Matthew and they were out of the city. Brooke wanted to ask, but she knew it wouldn’t yield anything.
In the first place, what was she aiming to do? And without Thane too. But then, she didn’t want Thane to find out about this at all. They were leaving the country tomorrow morning, and she didn’t want to look pathetic in front of him anymore.
Especially after finding out that he was the boy from back then...
"What am I going to do?" she cried into her palm.
"Brooke?" a familiar voice called out.
Brooke raised her watery eyes to see the old man she had met earlier, the one who had given her his business card.
She quickly wiped her tears, "Oh sorry, I didn’t notice you come in "
He knelt in front of her. "Forget that, are you okay?"
She nodded. "Yes, it’s just...allergies." She sniffled.
Julian reached into his coat and pulled out a handkerchief. He pressed it to her. "Have you told your doctor? Do you have medicine for it?’
She smiled at the handkerchief, it was soft and it had a nice scent. "I’ll be okay."
"You know. I couldn’t help but overhear you on the phone. It seems your ride is delayed?" he pried.
The elevator reached the grand floor, which had a sparse amount of people due to how early in the morning it was.
He walked next to Brooke. "Are you in need of a ride?"
Brooke furiously shook her head. "No. I couldn’t ask that of you. I’m fine, I’ll call a taxi-"
"Taxi?" he looked at her incredulously.
"Is that a bad thing?" Brooke asked, wondering what was so bad about taking a taxi.
He nodded, "I don’t mean to brag, but we are the sort of people who should never use public transportation. There are a lot of people looking for easy money, and a lot of enemies lurking in the shadows. To protect yourself and cause your loved ones not to worry, you have to always be cautious."
Brooke chuckled nervously. "But I’m not someone anyone would bother to kidnap."
He raised a brow. ’Her guard is lowered so much it’s putting me off. No member of the Grayson family is this carefree, or is she really not a Grayson? But then how is she at this hospital? Does she have ulterior motives?’ he racked his brain as they approached the parking lot.
"What about you? You’re walking around without any bodyguards, you’re being just as carefree as I am." Brooke stated.
Julian smiled. "I find them restricting. I’m guessing you do too."
She cracked a grin. "It complicates things, having people follow you around all the time."
"I agree, but using a taxi is still too dangerous. I heard you say you’re going to the estate. Do you mean the Grayson estate? If so then I’ll have my driver take us right now.." He insisted.
"Sir, if you don’t mind me asking, why are you helping me? This all feels like a scam to be honest." She said remembering Thane’s words about her being too trusting.
Julian responded. "I owe you for your phone yesterday, and you promised to help me set up an account."
"I know, but still-"
"Besides, I was going to meet with Maverick Grayson either way. I might as well go see him." He added.
Brooke arched her brows.
He was going to see Maverick? But what for?
