Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 153: Certainty And Uncertainty
Chapter 153: Certainty And Uncertainty
The hospital arranged for another hospital bed to be placed next to Thane’s, where Brooke would sleep. Eventually, Hannah arrived with Brooke’s change of clothes and toiletries.
"Hannah, are you okay? I was trying to call you but you didn’t answer." Brooke asked, looking through the things Hannah got her.
Thane was out taking a walk with Gilbert, discussing his business, judging by his serious expression, she guessed that something had happened.
"My phone went dead." Hannah responded.
Brooke narrowed her eyes. "Hannah-"
Hannah cut her off, "Oh right, Cassie’s phone. You were meant to be the one to go through it." She said, reaching into her bag, she took out the phone, and placed it next on the bed next to Brooke.
Brooke blinked twice, "It really is her phone, how did..."
"Master Grayson took it when he saved you, he must’ve felt that there was something important in it." She said.
Brooke nodded and picked it up, she turned it on and swiped the screen, access granted immediately. She scrolled around, surprised that Cassie’s untouchable phone was now in her hand.
"It took me a while because I wanted to make sure not a single piece of data was lost." Hannah explained.
Brooke’s fingers glided across the screen and tapped on Cassie’s gallery. She looked through the pictures one after the other, of Cassie at various events and some concerts.
Scrolling through, she saw some of Ethan and Cassie, she tapped on the photo info and gasped. "This is the day after our wedding."
Hannah sat on the bed. "What is?"
Brooke flashed a selfie of Cassie and Ethan in front of a swimming pool. "Ethan said that he was too busy for us to have a honeymoon, of course I played the understanding wife like a fool. Damn, how stupid was I?"
Hannah narrowed her eyes at the photo, "Where is this? Cassie though a ham actress couldn’t just go to any resort, same goes for Ethan, it would be too risky."
Brooke rolled her tongue around her mouth, "I don’t know-" her words were cut short by some messages flooding Cassie’s screen, they seemed to be old messages filtering in.
One message in particular caught Brooke’s eye.
-"You think my silence is cheap? I have all the pictures you filthy bitch. If I release just one of these your career is as good as gone."-
She and Hannah exchanged quick glances, Brooke immediately tapped on the chat, and scrolled to the beginning.
After reading for a few moments she frowned, "What secret is he talking about?" Brooke asked, she had been reading meticulously, but he didn’t specifically mention what he was talking about.
Hannah narrowed her eyes, "And she’s sending a lot of money to him too. Whatever it is, it must be something huge."
Brooke nodded, "Cassie has always been stingy, she wouldn’t give this much money if she desperately didn’t want this secret kept hidden."
"Don’t worry Brooke, I’ll ask some of my friends to help me track the number and find out who she’s talking to." Hannah offered.
"Thank you a lot Hannah, for everything you’re doing for me. I don’t even know how I can begin to repay you." She said.
Hannah got up, "It’s not an issue, I am helping you because you’re a good person and I just happen to dislike that Cassie bitch. So it’s a win-win."
She turned around, but stopped all of a sudden. "Mrs Grayson, there is one thing you could do to repay me." her lips drawn into a broad grin.
Brooke tilted her head to the side. "What’s that?"
When Thane returned to the hospital room, he was surprised to see Brooke’s bed had been shifted next to his to form a larger bed, with Brooke sitting at the edge of the bed, her hands buried in her face.
"What happened here??" Thane asked, his eyes laced with intrigue.
Brooke shook her head and groaned, "Hannah."
Thane’s lips broadened into a wider grin, "Hannah definitely deserves a raise." he said, closing the door behind him.
"I don’t know why she does these things, it’s not like we’re going to indulge in anything she’s thinking." Brooke huffed.
He took large strides to the bed, then reached for her chin, gently tugging he furrowed his brows, "We’re not?"
Brooke slapped his hand away and flattened her brows, "Don’t feed her fantasies, we have more important things to think about."
Thane felt otherwise but he kept that opinion to himself. "What do you reckon is more important?" He asked, pouring a glass of water. He held it to Brooke then sat next to her and watched her drink it.
"Your health. I have so many questions to ask, but I was wondering if it was okay to ask you." She said, her fingers pressed firmly to the glass.
Thane exhaled, "What do you want to know?
Brooke dropped the glass and reached for his hand, "Can we start with how long you’ve had it for?" She intertwined her fingers with his, and looked him carefully in the eye.
Although he felt conflicted, Thane gave his answer, his voice low and rumbling, "Ever since I was born. My parents, of course didn’t detect it until I was five years old, when they noticed I was always weak and short of breath." He explained.
"A year after I was diagnosed, they sent me to another country, to get treated, but without them."
Brooke gasped, "That’s awful." The thought of Malcolm and Rosalind sending their six year old son away while terminally Ill sickened her.
Thane passed her a weak smile,"They assured me that my illness would just go away and by the time I was back, our lives would return to normal. But you know, I think they sent me away so they could retain some sort normalcy in their lives."
’That’s not true-’ she thought to say, but decided against it.
"They sent me away for five years, in a cold, lonesome mansion, and did not contact me once. I felt helpless and loathed myself for failing to meet their expectations." He revealed, his fingers clenching tightly onto his wife’s.
"I hated everything and everyone around me, until the day I met the light that brightened my miserable existence." He said, lifting his gaze from their hands to Brooke’s eyes.
Her heart raced wildly with panic, why was he looking at her? She averted her eyes, and dry coughed, quelling the tension. "Really? Who are you talking about? And where is that person?"
Thane lightly chuckled, "If I remember, that person was a thief."
Brooke widened her eyes, "A thief?"
"A thief who thought I was going to jump from my window." He said, rubbing his thumb across the back of her hand. "That person had the strength of a gorilla and talked enough for the both of us..." the more Thane spoke, the paper Brooke became.
Watching him speak, she retracted her hand and stared at him intensely. "Mr Grayson-" he cut her off, grabbing her by the chin and bringing their foreheads to meet.
"Brooke, you know the penalty for doing that." He breathed, snaking his hand up to her cheek, gently caressing it.
Brooke could hear her own heart beat and felt the heat emanating from every stroke. "Who are you?" She asked, in a stiff voice.
Her husband dragged his thumb across her lower lip, fondling, caressing and teasing. "The thief was the daughter of a maid, and had never used an elevator before. She was loud, rude and made me hate her every breath." Thane said, jogging up her memory.
"Mr Grayson-"
"She stole a jewel encrusted egg, worth over a hundred million, but was careless enough to let it spill out of her pocket. Not very subtle if you ask me." He crooned, finding her hand with his other hand and interlocking their fingers.
Brooke closed her eyes and shook her head, it couldn’t be him. Just how much of a coincidence was her life, that the same kid from back then would just show up in her life. And besides, didn’t Hannah say he was dead and buried? So why? Why did Mr Grayson know so much about it? She hadn’t told him any of it in...
"Brooke." Thane’s voice called out to her.
She opened her eyes, to see Thane staring at her as though she were the most precious sight to behold.
"You were the thief who stole her way into my heart, you’re the reason I am the person I am today. It’s you. It’s always been you. It will always be you." He said, taking his thumb off her lip.
"This is insane. How did you even- All these years-I don’t..." she sighed, "I don’t know what to think right now."
Thane pulled his head back, giving her room to breathe. He made a move to stand up, but she held him by the wrist and looked him in the eye.
"Brooke-"
"But what I do know for certain, is that.. " she bit her lip, "I don’t want you to leave my side, ever."
