Cosmic Paragon-Chapter 54: Survival Continues!
Chapter 54: Chapter 54: Survival Continues!
Inside the command room, Commander Seth stood in the same position he had
been in since the Survival training had started. He remained unmoving as he
continued to survey the screens displaying the current events in the Fallen city.
The personnel continued to move from one activity to another as they monitored
the situations of all the students in the battlefield.
They would immediately call out every time there was a change in the situation or
whenever a student surrendered.
Earlier in the day the space Mages that were responsible for escorting all the
Mages that chose to retire were constantly teleporting to and from the battlefield
with no rest. Now however, now they were standing unmoving in place.
They were only needed to go and save a student very rarely now. This is because
at this time only the truly elite and experienced Mages were left now. All the
weaklings had already retired long time ago.
Commander Seth continued to stand silently as he stared at what was happening
with the students in the screens. At this tome, there was a slight quiver in space
a little bit behind him, and the figure of a Silver robed teleporter Mage appeared
in the room.
"Commander!" the voice of a woman sounded from the new arrival.
"How are they?" Commander Seth finally asked after a moment of silence.
"Reporting sir, I made sure to keep an eye on them until they found a safe place
to stay while remaining hidden."
"That’s good! Those three are good, saving them is alright. Students like them will
be very important to the future of Alpha academy and all of humanity, especially
the twins." Seth nodded softly, "You may return."
"Yes sir."
Space affinity Mages are very rare, there might only be one in a thousand Mages
making them quite hard to find. Yet, now they got both Space and Time with the
twins.
"These twins, they’re Anna’s kids right?" Seth suddenly turned to one of the
clerical personnel and inquired.
"Yes sir!" the man responded.
"Man, its been so long since we last saw each other, and the last time I heard
anything about her she was working with Obsidian Palace." Seth gave a wry
smile, "To think she even has kids now."
He then fell silent seemingly reminiscing about the past.
"Is there any information about those two?" He asked.
"Yes Commander!" the man responded and quickly opened a projection with the
data about the twins.
"The twins, Peter Anders and Paul Anders, are the children of Anna Summers
and Blake Anders."
"Haha, Blake Anders. Looks like that handsome bastard couldn’t get away from
her in the end." Seth laughed, "I guess it should have been expected, anything
else." there was a complicated look in his eyes.
"They were recommended to Alpha Academy alongside two others, one being their
cousin Sylvia Summers and another called Drake Black."
Seth nodded taking note of Sylvia who was Anna’s niece but ignored Drake after
all it wouldn’t be the first time someone referred a kid they thought had good
prospects to a Mage academy.
Commander Seth remained silent after that, but he made a mental note to add
the twins to his list. ’These two will be a good addition to the list of candidates for
that event.’ He thought, then turned his attention back to the screens.
...
Drake and the twins were sprawled over on the floor completely drained.
Having magic power made it so it was much harder for a person to be physically
exhausted. If anything you could completely recover your physical strength very
easily as long as you circulated your magic energy throughout your body.
However, after that marathon they had faced against the pack of Wind wolves, no
Mage would dare say that they weren’t tired. They had immediately collapsed the
instant they were out of danger and the adrenalin wore off. All their muscles felt
sore.
Physical exhaustion aside they felt even more mentally fatigued. Magic power
used up a lot of mental energy and was very tasking on the mind, so even though
the whole ordeal had lasted for no more than an hour, the three of them felt like
they had been sleep deprived for a week.
There was a saying among Mages that ’it is much easier to exhaust your mental
energy than your magic power!’ and this saying was especially true for 2 star
Mages.
At their current level, every cell in their body was overflowing with abundant
magic energy. Apart from that the air around them was filled with magic energy,
and every breath breath they took would draw in magic energy into their bodies.
So the magic energy they were using up as they used their magic power was
constantly being replenished by the second.
But the same could not be said about mental energy. Yes, it is true that having
magic power gives you stronger mental energy and their mental strength grows
over long periods of time and with every breakthrough to the next level.
However, one could only recover mental energy when one is in a resting state. For
every second you spend when you are awake you are using up your mental
energy, doing anything uses up mental energy, using magic power uses up mental
energy. Hell even thinking exhausts mental energy.
So right now they were very thoroughly drained both physically and mentally.
Even though Drake had used his healing power on them to help them recover, it
had only helped in restoring them from their injured states, but didn’t help with
the exhaustion.
Drake was resting near a window with his back propped up against the wall. He
stared at the two brothers that were lying lazily on the ground and a thousand
thought ran through his mind.
He remembered everything that had occurred earlier.
They had successfully killed the Wind Wolf Alpha, and as you can expect all the
wolves wanted nothing more than to eat his flesh and drink his blood.
Pandemonium had broken out the next moment, the Wind wolves were willing to
stop at nothing until they settled the Vendetta.
Drake had tried persuading the twins to retire from the survival training but they
had refused. When a person surrendered their students token would emit a
special barrier that would cover the student to keep them safe from any attack.
This would protect them until the supervisors arrived to escort them out of the
Fallen city.
However, Drake didn’t really trust this barrier. That is because earlier in the day
he had seen a student that had surrendered activate the barrier, and when he
had looked at the barrier with the ’Eye of Order’ he had discovered that it could
protect the student from an an attack at least as powerful as the full force attack
of a 4 star Mage. But he had also learned that having the barrier active would
mean you could not run way, all you could do was wait for help to come .
While this was powerful Drake didn’t dare to entrust his life to some barrier. With
that many Wind wolves attacking them at once even though one or two couldn’t
break the barrier, but consistently getting attacked would definitely exhaust the
energy of the barrier over time.
’One ant can’t kill a dog, but many ants can kill an elephant.’
And who knew how long it would take for the supervisors to arrive. Drake would
not entrust his life to anyones hands.
So he had asked them to surrender. Once they retired and the barrier was
protecting them, he would forcefully breakout and run away. When the wind
wolves saw that they could not do anything to the barrier, they would give up on
attacking the twins and focus their pursuit on him.
This would make it so even if not all, but most of the wind wolves would chase
after him, reducing the strain on the twins. But the twins seemed to have sensed
his intentions and absolutely refused to comply. ’If he does that he will die
without a doubt.’ was what they thought.
No matter what Drake said they would not leave. Drake understood what was In
their hearts and it touched him deeply.
Drake was both furious and anxious at the time, but just as they were in dire
straits a woman dressed in a silver battle robe had appeared out of thin air and
the next instant all four of them vanished from the battlefield.
When the looked around again, they found there were no wolves in their
surroundings, they were just outside the forest.
It turns out this woman was on of the supervisors in charge of looking after the
students and escorting those that retired out of the training grounds. Drake
instantly felt relieved.
Even though they had forfeited the training session, it was worth it since they got
to keep their lives. That was what he thought, but then her next words shocked
him.
"Your survival training continues. Good luck!" she said.
This had surprised them but they immediately understood after she explained.
This was survival training, with great emphasis to the word ’Training’. It wasn’t
the real thing, just a class activity, so there was no real life and death trial.
They were just students, of course the academy wouldn’t send them to their
deaths, so they had a hidden privilege that they were un aware of frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
But, you could never be too safe so the barrier in their students token was an
additional safety measure.
As students, as long as they were in dire straits, under special conditions the
teachers and supervisors could save them even if they do not surrender should
the supervisor find it worth it.
If you were to be saved under such circumstances then you could resume the
survival training. However, you could only enjoy this privilege once.
The three of them were elated at this. They didn’t care that they had used up
their one chance, right now they were alive and they could continue the training.
That was all thaat mattered for now.
The twins even tried asking about the Wind wolves they ad killed after all it would
really be a real waste if they could not get the rewards for killing them.
But she only snorted and gave one response. "Would you rather have the rewards
or your lives." after saying that she teleported away
They immediately shut up about the rewards. Drake had wanted to scold them
for disobeying orders, but what they said froze him.
This isn’t the military and we aren’t soldiers. You are our boss! That means you
are one of us, our friend, our brother. You’re also our leader and we protect each
other. That means you protect us and we protect you!"
Drake fell silent. How long has it been since anyone was willing to stay by him, to
not leave him no matter what? Queen was the only one who had done this in a
long time so he really cherished this feeling. "Fine then, since you were willing to
risk your lives for me, then from this moment on I will do my best to protect you.
My brothers.’
in this moment Drake made a vow, ’I don’t want to ever rely on luck ever again! I
don’t want to expect somebody to help me.’
’From now on I will train to be the strongest so that no body will bully me, so that
nobody will look down on me, and so that I can protect all those close to me. I will
become the strongest Mage and I will stand at the peak of this world!’
Little did anyone know that it was at this instant that the legend was born.
