Cosmic Paragon-Chapter 41: Hunting Magic Beasts!
Chapter 41: Chapter 41: Hunting Magic Beasts!
Seth was really pissed right now.
Commander Seth was a former student of Alpha academy himself before he had chosen to join the military. Even though he had not had any excessively high hopes for these newbie Mages, he still hoped that at the very least they could at least put up a fight in this survival training.
Yet, in merely half an hour over half the students taking the class had retired.
For someone like him who was proud that he was once a student of Alpha academy, this was a mighty slap in his face. He had been displeased when he found out that only 300 students had been accepted into Alpha academy this year and even among that number, over two-thirds were non Mages.
"What the hell! Alpha academy is supposed to be a Mage academy why are there less Mages than non-Mages?" he was enraged.
"If this continued for a few more years Alpha academy would definitely soon lose it’s position as the greatest Mage academy in the empire. Hell it might even stop being a Mage academy at this rate!"
For the last few years Alpha academy had been losing it’s prestige as a Mage academy resulting in less and less young Mages choosing to go there. Instead they would all rather flock to Omega academy.
These days only the weakest Mages chose Alpha academy, and even the non-Mages that took the Mage academy entry exams mostly only took it just since they could get sponsors.
When he learned about how low Alpha academy had fallen in these years he thought he had to do something, so he had taken leave from the front lines and come to the academy.
He thought the main reason why the standards of the students kept falling was because they lacked experience on the battlefield, so he had taken over the Survival training class for the Elementary students.
Yet, immediately he took over the Survival class the first class he was taken was almost driving him insane. In merely half an hour from the start of the training over half surrendered, even when he forcefully controlled his temper he nearly exploded.
It was maddening!
It was no wonder Alpha academy had fallen.
With these kinds of wastrels filling the academy, the future of the once greatest Mage academy was bleak.
The personnel looked over to Seth awaiting further orders. Everyone in the academy were all fearful of this great military commander, but apart from fear there was also great reverence in their hearts when they looked at him.
That is because they all knew who this man was.
He was once a student of Alpha academy, after graduating he had let to join the military, and merely ten years after leaving Alpha academy to join the military he had risen to the rank of commander. His feats in battle on the front lines had made his nickname echo in all corners of the empire Desert Lion Seth the Berserker!
He was the pride of the academy!
They thought, ’If anyone can save Alpha academy it would be him.’
They knew he wanted to train the students from this year’s Elementary class, but they feared the student’s performance would disappoint him and cause him to abandon them.
Even though he was not happy, he was still a military commander with strong will power and tolerance, so he restrained his anger and said, "Don’t worry, I want to see the whole thing. From this I will now what to do with the students."
When they heard this they hid sighs of relief, but when they saw his dark face the knew he was not happy and couldn’t help but pity this year’s Elementary class.
They would probably suffer a lot in his hands.
...
With every passing second, there were bloody battles taking place in the fallen city! Even though Grade 1 beasts were considered to only be comparable to 1 star Mages, many people could not defeat them thanks to how fierce and berserk the beasts were.
The only advantage the students had over the beasts was their intellect. Humans were smart while the Grade 1 beasts most only relied on their natural instincts. That was the only reason why the students were able to kill the Grade 1 beasts. And even then it would take several 2 star Mages to kill a Grade 1 beast.
As for Grade 2 beasts, they were much smarter than the Grade 1 beasts. And so the students would first have to use traps to heavily injure them before they would be able to kill them.
Even then killing a heavily injured Grade 2 beast would take the full effort of at the very least over twenty 2 star Mages.
...
07:49 PM.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
CANG! CANG! CANG!
On a ten story high building, two shadows kept dashing across the roof and the loud sounds of metal clashing against metal could be heard from their collisions.
RAAR!!!
SWISH! CHI!
Moonlight shone on the blade of the Katana as it slashed through the back of the neck of a two meter tall reptile, severing the beast’s spine.
Da- da.
The beast collapsed but the body continued to thrash everything in its surroundings.
BAM!
Drake did not manage to get away on time and the swinging tail sent him flying to the other end of the building
Grade 2 beast; Winged Lizard
Battle Power: 3000
From the moment he had seen the Lizards details he instantly knew that it had only evolved into a Grade 2 beast not too long ago. When he had first seen it, his first thought was to run away. But then after taking s closer look, he noticed that it was actually injured with one of its wings being badly mangled.
When he saw that he hesitated. But he did not just jump out to start a fight with the beast.
Drake knew some information about the Lizard species. Lizards were very territorial so any beast that entered their territory would be madly attacked until it either left or was killed. This was only one of the reasons why Drake did not want to get into a fight with this guy. The other reason is because reptile type beasts were some of the hardest beasts to kill.
They did not go down with one blow like mammals did, instead you had to thoroughly kill them. If not, thanks to their powerful vitality even if they were beheaded they would still attack randomly they would take down anything standing down with them.
After much deliberation, he had finally decided that he would go for it. yet, even though it was wounded he didn’t dare to be careless. He had first wanted to blind it before anything else and had succeeded in half blinding it by assassinating it. but, when he tried aiming for the second eye he had failed.
The Lizard instantly found him and crazily attacked him like it had some personal vendetta it must settle with him, a vendetta that would only end with the death of one of them.
He had only finally managed to land this fatal blow after a long arduous battle.
...
As he watched the thrashing beast, he felt like his ones had been crushed to mush, and he felt a bit of fear. Luckily he had only suffered from a single stray bash that had sent him far away from it. if not he might have been killed if he took any more hits. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
And to think the beast was already injured when he faced off against it. what would happen if the second wing was not injured. Didn’t that mean it would still be able to fly.
There was a trace of apprehension in his heart when he thought of fighting against that lizard when it still retained its ability to fly.
The wound did not look like it was from fighting against another beast, rather like it was caused by someone chopping it off with a blade. That meant at least there was no other beast close by that would be coming for revenge.
’The Winged Lizard is very territorial so there is no other magical beast within 200meters of this building. At least for the next few hours this place should be a little safe so I can rest here for a it.’ Drake thought.
He was counting on the notoriety of how ruthless the Lizard was to keep other beasts away from its territory even with the smell of blood at least until he left.
With that thought on his mind, he turned his attention to examining his injuries.
When the lizards tail had hit him he had let it throw him so even though he was injured, it was not serious his internal organs were just slightly displaced and he had a few broken ribs.
He used his magic energy to try and help him stabilize his injuries. Even though he was not a healer himself and he had not yet learned how to use his magic energy to heal, magic energy on its own nourished the body.
There was a specific affinity called Healers that could heal every injury or ailment. But they were not the only ones that could heal. Almost every affinity could heal but there were specific affinity’s that particularly supported healing like water, wood and light. There was also life energy that was more powerful than regular healing, it was an evolved version of the healer affinity.
Drake did not know how to use his cosmic energy to heal himself so he just let it nourish his wounds to stabilize. Then he turned his attention to the stars in his seal.
He never stopped trying to form the next constellation. It was about time he completed it.
