Chapter 38 -35 How to Pretend_1
The first batch alone had fifty thousand items, and who knows how many more batches there would be!
Feng Yi then understood why Lu Yue said he wouldn’t charge by the item.
Taking the ten thousand per mouse as reference, even if this was different from catching mice, it couldn’t be too cheap, right?
But for such a large quantity, fifty thousand items…
If other experts specialized in distinguishing leather were to do the job, it would probably take a long time, and it wasn’t something that one or two people could handle. In Qianli Group’s view, it was indeed not efficient enough. They couldn’t afford to let the merchandise sit in the storage for too long.
Of course, they could buy test kits for bulk testing, but now the kits for the seventh generation of Medusa leather were too expensive, and there weren’t many. If they really wanted to run tests, they could only randomly pick a batch; it wasn’t feasible to test everything.
They needed to ensure accuracy, greatly value efficiency, and still consider costs… No wonder Lu Yue had sought him out and probed indirectly.
Lu Yue watched Feng Yi’s facial expressions and said, “In that case, you name a price, and I’ll discuss it with our department, okay?”
“Let me see the design first, to see if the snake skin part on the clothes is identifiable. Then I can decide,” Feng Yi replied. He remained very cautious when dealing with people like Lu Yue, even concealing some tricks while appraising the sample of snake skin earlier.
Lu Yue nodded in agreement, “That’s how it should be. I’ll go back and prepare, then contact you tomorrow.”
“Alright.”
“Don’t breathe a word of this to anyone. Not a single word, got it?”
“Understood, I’m aware of that. Oh, and Brother Lu, if we do collaborate, I hope to settle the fees on a daily basis.”
Lu Yue appeared troubled, “This is a bit difficult… The company places great importance on this new product line, but it’s a sensitive time now. With competitors watching and regulatory authorities scrutinizing, all necessary audits must be completed, and we’ll surely have to pick some from the merchandise you’ve appraised for random testing. Without completing these inspections, the company wouldn’t agree to direct payment. Of course, once everything goes smoothly, not a single penny will be missing! The transfer will be immediate!”
Feng Yi smiled, “But I’m not cooperating with your company. This isn’t a corporation-to-corporation or studio-to-corporation collaboration; it’s just you personally asking me to do a task, and if there are any issues, I’ll only be seeking you.”
Lu Yue paused, then slowly nodded, “I understand your point. I’ll get back to you tomorrow.”
After Feng Yi had left and the driver had entered the car, Lu Yue sat quietly in the back seat, head slightly bowed in thought.
Seeing this, the driver understood that things probably weren’t going smoothly with the collaboration.
When Lu Yue took his teacup to drink some water, the driver asked, “Boss, did you settle on a price?”
“No, wait for tomorrow. This kid, after being burned once, has indeed become quite shrewd,” Lu Yue said as he took out his phone and dialed a number. “Clear out a space in the warehouse in the north of the city. Warehouse 5 has the intelligent hanging system, right… Okay, then Warehouse 5 it is. Adjust…”

Lu Yue thought about how Feng Yi had taken just over a minute to identify those five snake skin samples.
If it took even more time to recognize the designs on the new clothing line, suppose each took half a minute.
Two items per minute, 120 pieces per hour, and considering not to push too hard on the first day, so count eight hours, that would make it 960 items…
“Move a thousand items over first; have them all sorted and hung up for use early tomorrow morning. Keep a close watch on the warehouse.”
The smuggling of those snake skins onto the group’s production line without a trace wasn’t something that the few small fries they caught could have pulled off. Regardless of the original intention of those poachers, once they took the batch of hides and shifted their target to Qianli Group, the person behind the move wasn’t simple. Their intent wasn’t merely to destroy the new brand but also to take a stab at Qianli Group. However, there was no need to tell Feng Yi about these matters. What Feng Yi needed to do was to identify the merchandise, but the price was still a bit of a hassle.
Who the hell could have expected before, Feng Yi to charge over ten thousand for catching a single mouse and it seems there’s even a market for it!!
He found himself at a loss to say the prepared words.
While Lu Yue was pondering how to drive down the price, Feng Yi set out to find some food.
Of course, he didn’t fully believe what Lu Yue said. Whether Qianli Group’s production line mishap was due to internal issues, external factors, or both wasn’t of interest to him. All he wanted now was to find a place to eat!
The process of catching mice was brief, but the analysis of scent information was exhaustive, placing significant stress on his brain. The olfactory organs merely capture scent molecules and then relay the information to be processed by the brain.
Mental work also consumed quite a bit of energy!
Feng Yi could now confirm that his evolution was still underway, albeit not as intensely as before. For instance, with each analysis of scent information, he became faster than the last time, and the results were increasingly abundant.
After switching between three establishments and consuming the portions of four people, Feng Yi sighed as he looked at the electronic bill: earning more money was a must!
Currently, his only issue was a big appetite, but who could say about later? If he needed more and under stricter conditions, would he stop evolving?
He couldn’t rely solely on the financial resources managed by his butler.
The deal with Lu Yue had to be taken, regardless.
But as for the pricing, he needed to give it some thought.
The initial batch was fifty thousand pieces. Given that Lu Yue’s merchandise catered to the mid to high-end market with a high price point, then the fee for differentiation, even if calculated per batch, should not be less than a hundred per item, right?
He would have to see the actual products before finalizing any decisions.
With these thoughts, Feng Yi turned in early upon arriving home. He needed ample rest and his brain at peak condition to process a vast and accurate amount of information.
While Feng Yi went to bed early, Lu Yue was up all night holding meetings to finalize plans, even personally checking the arrangements at Warehouse No. 5 in the north of the city.
The next day, Feng Yi woke up at seven and while having breakfast, he received a message from Lu Yue.
Lu Yue said he would send someone to pick him up, but Feng Yi declined and asked Lu Yue to send him the location; he would drive there after breakfast.
The drive to Lu Yue’s northern city warehouse took less than an hour. If not for the morning rush hour, it could have been quicker. That was also why Lu Yue chose this warehouse—it was closer to the residential community where Feng Yi lived than the other warehouses they owned. Additionally, its facilities were better and it had higher security compared to others.
Upon arriving, Feng Yi was led into an office inside the warehouse.
Besides Lu Yue, there were seven or eight others in the office. All of them were involved with the new brand project along with Lu Yue. Important decisions couldn’t be left to him alone; they had to be there to make sure this wasn’t a con.
After introducing everybody, Lu Yue smiled apologetically at Feng Yi, “They’re just worried; this matter is too important.”
“Understandable,” Feng Yi said, looking at the row of about twenty clothes on a display rack, “A test?”
“It’s also to showcase your abilities. I know very well how skilled you are at identifying snake skin, but no matter how much I tell them, it won’t compare to seeing it with their own eyes, right?”
“Right!”
Feng Yi had no objections, put on the gloves they had prepared, and stepped up to the display rack.
Lu Yue didn’t mention how many were genuine leather and how many were faux leather, but in Feng Yi’s eyes, it looked as if he was trying to find three bright, shiny green beans mixed in with over twenty plain white grains of rice!
How could he pretend that “this job isn’t so easy”?
