Chapter 31 -28 One Minute_1
Brother Hu Yi drove the car in the lead, with Feng Yi following him.
Unaware of what they had discussed in the car, upon arrival and disembarking, Brother Hu Yi looked at Feng Yi with a hint of expectation in his eyes.
Feng Yi didn’t pay much attention to that, his eyes were on the row of warehouses a short distance away, one of which was the target of his visit.
As they arrived, a vehicle was leaving, its sides bearing the logo of another pest control company.
Brother Hu Yi asked Feng Yi to wait for a moment and went to the break room to find the warehouse owner.
“Boss, has it been taken care of?”
“Not yet!” The warehouse owner’s face was creased with extra folds of worry, “Did the person you found come over?”
“Yeah, it wasn’t easy for my brother and me to get him here, we agreed on ten thousand per catch.”
“Fine! As long as he captures them, I’ll transfer the money to him immediately! Cough cough cough!” The owner’s already raspy voice strained further with excitement.
He hadn’t rested the entire day, from being busy with shipments to calling pest control companies, to now sitting and agonizing over what to do if the problem wasn’t solved by tomorrow. If rats in the warehouse weren’t promptly dealt with, buyers would certainly question whether there was an issue with the goods his company dispatched.
“Where’s the person you brought?” the owner asked.
“Outside,” Brother Hu Yi glanced out, “He’s already heading to the warehouse.”
The owner initially planned to stand up and take a look but then sat down again, pulling out a tablet to check the surveillance cameras inside and outside of the warehouse. He was too worn out after a long day’s work.
“He looks pretty young.” Studying the surveillance footage, the owner didn’t hold out much hope.
He had already been disappointed all day, watching team after team from pest control companies come and go. Seeing Feng Yi, who was neither a pro at this nor bolstered by a team, it was impossible for the owner to feel confident in him.
Still, one more person meant one more helping hand, and even if he couldn’t catch them, any good suggestions for solving the problem would be welcome.
Thinking this way, the owner said, “Let someone take him in then. Have you signed an agreement? He needs to know about compensating for any goods damaged during the extermination process.”
“Uh… he’s not from a pest control company, so the usual paperwork doesn’t apply. But I have informed him about compensation for any damaged goods. Should we sign an agreement now?” Brother Hu Yi inquired.
The boss let out a breath, “Never mind that for now, exterminating the rats is most important. Keep an eye on it.”
Brother Hu Yi then asked, “Can the lights inside be turned on temporarily?”
“One hour at most, and it has to be split up depending on how the cargo handling is scheduled. The full lighting can be switched on briefly, but it’s not possible to keep it on for hours. The warehouse is busy with moving goods right now.
“Otherwise, wait three hours before going in. We’ll need to finish dispatching the items sensitive to light, and then we can turn on the lights. There’s no other way. Earlier, a pest control company came, understood the situation, and decided to come back tomorrow during the day. They asked me to clear an hour in the morning and pause shipping.” the owner explained.
Brother Hu Yi relayed the owner’s message to Feng Yi.
“No need for lights.” Feng Yi looked toward the warehouse.
At this time, cargo robots were constantly entering and exiting, with humans only assisting; the rest was handled by cargo robots. The inside of the warehouse was indeed quite dark, and the lighting was controlled to an appropriate brightness level. Occasionally, someone entered to tally up items but quickly exited. For the average person, the place was indeed too dim.
Approaching the warehouse, Feng Yi’s stride halted, and he frowned deeply.
Seeing Feng Yi stop at the warehouse entrance, Brother Hu Yi worriedly said to Hu Yi beside him, “Why isn’t he going in? He isn’t thinking of backing out now, is he?”
“He shouldn’t,” Hu Yi was unsure himself. The situation in the warehouse was indeed a lot more complex, and he couldn’t make out what was inside, only noticing the busy cargo robots at the entrance.
Feng Yi paused at the entrance to the warehouse. The mixture of reagent and experimental material odors made his head spin, scents he was not familiar with during his recent training to control his olfaction. His brain couldn’t analyze them on the spot.
To better pick up on the scent of his prey, Feng Yi hadn’t worn a mask. After filtering out the odors of the reagents and chemicals, he finally sniffed out the scent of the prey hiding within the warehouse.
He put on his gloves, opened a box, and went inside, carrying a long-handled clamp.
The warehouse owner, who had been monitoring the situation on his screen: ???
“He’s just relying on that?”
Aren’t rat-catching nets, night vision goggles, glue traps, and other equipment necessary?!
The warehouse owner picked up a walkie-talkie, “Send a few people in to keep an eye on him.”
The goods inside the warehouse were too valuable, and someone like Feng Yi was just too hard to trust.
Originally, the owner had considered paying a premium tomorrow for a top spot to hire the online famous “Sticky Mouse Mat expert.”
That person was a miracle worker, sensational on the internet! A stroll around the site, a setup of a few mouse glue mats, and then just waiting was all it took. It was said that up until now, no mouse had ever escaped his trap. The more the rats struggled, the more they got stuck, rendering them unable to jump elsewhere and contaminate any goods.
Out of all pest control masters he had seen, that one was the most formidable!
But he was difficult to get hold of; appointments were needed, and he hadn’t been able to secure one today.
Meanwhile, at the warehouse.
Upon receiving the boss’s instructions, the three warehouse employees followed Feng Yi inside.
One of the employees said, “We’ve come to help.”
Feng Yi made a gesture: Back off a bit, don’t get in the way!
The three employees exchanged glances and didn’t follow too closely, instead they watched from the other end of the aisle.
To facilitate the cargo robots in moving items, the warehouse was very neatly organized, allowing one to see from one end to the other, so whatever Feng Yi did, they could see. As long as they kept Feng Yi within their line of sight, they didn’t have to worry about anything; they could handle any fallen goods in time. Even if there were blind spots they couldn’t monitor, the warehouse was still equipped with surveillance cameras.
Feng Yi was aware of what they were thinking, but he paid it no mind. Glancing around the warehouse, he noted that its layout was indeed much like what Brother Hu Yi had described.
As a cargo robot came over to move items, one of the employees was about to remind him, but saw Feng Yi had already circled around it, not even touching the nearby shelves.
Feng Yi followed the scent inside, but to others, it didn’t look that way.
Watching the monitors, the warehouse boss only saw Feng Yi enter the warehouse and head inside without any hesitation, as if he already had a clear target in mind. Then, suddenly, he turned and walked down the aisle between two rows of shelves.

Seeing the shelf numbers, the warehouse boss’s heart leaped, “Follow him! That’s where the important reagent kits are!”
The kind that costs thousands per box!
It was not too bad if the kits were in whole cases, but there were also smaller boxes on the shelves from opened cases!
He could faint from distress if even one box were knocked over.
“Let him not to…”
Before he could finish his sentence, he saw Feng Yi’s arm flash, and he plucked a mouse from the shelf.
“…”
The unspoken words seemed to be suddenly choked off, caught in his throat.
Rubbing his eyes, the warehouse boss rewound the surveillance video a little bit and set the playback speed to 50%. A speed of 100% meant normal speed, above 100% meant fast-forward, and below meant slow motion. A speed of 50% meant playback at half the normal speed.
After a moment’s thought, the warehouse boss adjusted it again, this time to 30%, and watched the scene again.
Then, he rewound and replayed the footage once more, this time at 10% speed…
What exactly happened in that moment?
Why did a mouse suddenly appear in the clamp when he blinked his eyes?
Inside the warehouse.
The three employees, having received orders from the boss to stop Feng Yi from continuing in that direction, were now dazzled, as if they had suddenly seen an alien UFO Duang land in front of them, shocked and confused, unsure how to react to this scene that exceeded their understanding.
It wasn’t until Feng Yi left with the mouse in clamp that they came to their senses and remembered to check the valuable items on the shelves.
The goods were intact and neatly arranged.
At the warehouse entrance, Brother Hu Yi waited anxiously.
After Feng Yi went inside, Hu Yi checked the time on his phone, spoke briefly with his brother, and was about to sit down on a stool to wait when he saw Feng Yi come out with a mouse.
He checked his phone again.
Less than a minute had passed from the time he entered to the time he exited.
“Where’s the mousetrap bag?” Feng Yi asked.
Brother Hu Yi was still staring intently at the mouse on the clamp, as if studying whether it was real or fake, wondering how it could be caught so easily.
Hu Yi slapped his brother hard: “The mousetrap bag!”
“Huh? Oh! Right here!” his brother snapped out of it and fetched the bag to put the mouse in.
Feng Yi threw the caught mouse into the mousetrap bag.
Just as Brother Hu Yi was about to say something, he heard Feng Yi say, “Complimentary service, clean up the mouse droppings on the middle of the third level of shelf ‘J’. Make sure you handle that.”
“Oh, right!” Brother Hu Yi nodded mechanically, then quickly informed the employees inside the warehouse to check.
Feng Yi cleaned and disinfected the long-handle clamp, put it back into the box, locked it, and picked up the box.
“I’ve sent my bank account number to Hu Yi’s phone, and I hope to see the payment information when I get home.”
After saying that, Feng Yi drove off. He had overworked his brain today and needed to rest early, or it would affect his IQ.
Meanwhile, the warehouse boss, still in a state of shock, was sitting in the rest area, replaying that segment of the surveillance video in slow motion—replay—slow motion…
