Chapter 83: Mysterious 2

The sound quickly dissipated, and all was quiet again.

Li Chengyi frowned and glanced at the counter, where he quickly spotted a standing sign.

The sign was the size of a palm, predominantly blue, with a black and white QR code in the center, obviously for convenient payment.

“I paid by scanning the code,” Li Chengyi said loudly.

With that, he took out his phone and scanned the QR code.

Beep.

The phone let out a crisp sound, but then froze, failing to jump to the online payment program of the UnionPay network.

‘No internet?’ Li Chengyi narrowed his eyes, feeling that something was off.

He picked up his phone and dialed a few keys, then scanned the code again.

Another beep.

The screen still stuck on the scanning interface, with a green light moving up and down continuously, but still not proceeding to the payment interface.

He thought for a moment, quickly exited the scanning function, and opened the browser.

Whoosh, the browser loaded, displaying nothing but a blank page with a little yellow dog in the center wagging its tail, sitting on the ground.

Below it was a line of text: “Sorry, your network signal is poor, please check and try again.”

Li Chengyi tried several times and attempted to use other apps—none had internet access.

He pressed on his AR glasses again, which also had no signal.

Sigh…

He let out a breath, feeling uneasy, quickly turned around, and without bothering with the beverage, headed straight for the supermarket exit.

Bang.

The glass door made a bumping noise as he pushed it.

It wouldn’t open.

‘Locked?’ A heavy feeling sank in Li Chengyi’s heart, and he pushed hard a few more times, but the door only made bumping sounds, showing no sign of opening.

It was then that he noticed the street outside the small supermarket had, at some unknowing point, become enshrouded in darkness.

Without street lights, the street was invisible, and he couldn’t see any other shops out there either.

Only darkness.

No… there was still something visible.

Li Chengyi’s gaze moved downward and he saw the concrete floor at the entrance of the supermarket, reflecting pale light.

It was light casting out from inside the supermarket.

The concrete slab extended outwards just over a meter, with three small steps down.

Beyond the steps was a small area measuring three meters by two.

On each side of the space, there was a long rectangular green space.

And beyond that stretched an unseeable depth of darkness.

The green spaces on both sides were the same, with a surrounding shroud of pitch black.

The entire small supermarket seemed like a solitary light source residing in a silent expanse of darkness, like an isolated island floating in a sea of shadow.

Li Chengyi’s gaze wandered into the deeper darkness, his AR glasses silently entering engineering mode and activating the zoom feature.

Hiss.

With a soft noise, his view had magnified to 100 times its normal size.

But within his field of view, there remained only darkness; he could see nothing.

‘Activate night vision,’ he murmured under his breath.

The AR glasses clicked several times, then with a swish, the entire view turned a shade of gray.

Useless.

The depths of the darkness remained dim, revealing nothing to his sight.

Realizing this, Li Chengyi understood he had once again entered a Blind Spot.

Moreover, this Blind Spot seemed even more benign than previous premonitions, so much so that he had been entirely unaware when he had entered it.

Standing at the door, he thought for a moment, then suddenly raised his hand, from which, silently, appeared a short Golden Sword.

Grasping the Golden Sword, he stabbed fiercely at the glass door.

Clang.

The rending blade of the Gladiolus, which could slice through anything, was unexpectedly thwarted here.

‘So it’s true… this place is a Blind Spot…’ Li Chengyi finally confirmed.

He sheathed the Golden Sword, no longer trying to force his way out of the supermarket, but instead, turned around to look inside.

‘No wonder when I was choosing something to drink earlier, all I saw were unfamiliar brands.’

Without changing his demeanor, as an experienced hand who had entered Blind Spots many times before, he knew the most important thing was not to randomly lash out but to collect clues and information.

Only then could he find the real-world counterpart after getting out and discover the method to break free.

Standing at the entrance, his gaze drifted back to the cash register.

Between two small shelves behind the counter, a small patch of white wall was exposed.

There was a light green door, rectangular in shape, slightly ajar and unlocked.

From where Li Chengyi stood, he could see darkness within; no lights were on.

‘Based on the typical layout, behind the door should be the storage or rest area for the boss and employees.’

Li Chengyi’s eyes fixed on the small door.

‘So… should I go in and have a look?’

But he quickly dismissed the idea.

‘First collect detailed intelligence about this area. If there are really no other breakthroughs, then I’ll come back to this door.’

Once he had settled on a plan, he shifted his gaze away and looked toward the interior of the supermarket.

Under the bright white light, the five shelves still stood steadfastly in their places, not moving an inch.

A few freezers and cold drink machines lined the walls beside the shelves, filled with a variety of packaged beverages.

In the corner, messy stacks of boxes with red and blue lids of unfamiliar brands of distilled water were piled up.

Li Chengyi picked up the juice he had selected earlier, looking at its packaging once again.

This time, he was very thorough.

Now that he was certain he was in a Blind Spot, he tried to gather more information from the packaging.

The juice bottle was cylindrical, sealed at the top with a green plastic lid.

Around the waist, it was wrapped in green plastic paper, which apart from the logo, featured anthropomorphic strawberries squeezed together on grass.

In the midst of the bright red strawberries, a circle of little apples was enclosed.

Above the graphics, several rows of black letters were printed, but curiously, these letters were ones Li Chengyi had never seen before.

He adjusted his AR glasses and tried to analyze, but the glasses didn’t respond at all, obviously unable to access the database after entering the Blind Spot.

Li Chengyi’s mind stirred, and he quickly walked to the drink section, returning the beverage he had just picked up to its original spot.

Then, his gaze swept across the entire shelf.

What chilled him was that all the beverages on the shelf, five rows up and down, were in packaging he had never seen, with text he had never seen, and logos he had never seen.

Li Chengyi reached out and took a bottle from the shelf row by row.

Although he couldn’t understand the text on the bottles, each row on the shelf had labels that designated the product name and price, as well as the production date.

Li Chengyi scanned them one by one.

‘Mixed Vegetable and Fruit Juice, * yuan a bottle, production date: * year * month * day.’

Can’t see clearly?

At first, Li Chengyi thought his eyes were playing tricks on him, so he leaned in closer.

But even with his face almost pressed against the label, the writing remained a blur, as if obscured by a layer of frosted glass.

Apart from the name, he couldn’t make out anything else.

He furrowed his brows and surveyed all the beverages around him, finding that all the labels were the same.

Only the names were clear, all other information was fuzzy.

It was that feeling that you think if you just got closer, you could see clearly, but in reality, no matter how close you got, the writing remained indecipherable.

Leaving the drink section, he then visited the frozen section and the daily necessities section, only to find the same situation.

All labels were exactly alike.

Snap.

Suddenly, his foot seemed to step on something.

Li Chengyi bowed his head, bent down, and picked up the object.

It was a piece of paper that seemed to have been torn from some notebook. The handwriting was sloppy on it.

Fortunately, the writing on the paper was familiar to him.

‘I don’t know if I’m lucky or not. This Blind Spot is a type I’ve seldom seen before. A strange little supermarket, or perhaps a convenience store.’

Li Chengyi’s spirits lifted; this was clearly a message left by a previous Blind Spot Individual, surely it would provide more information.

He continued reading.

‘I call this place the Silent Store.’

‘If you see this paper, it means that nothing here has been replenished or organized. It seems your luck isn’t too bad.’

‘Remember, the products on the shelves might bring you great benefits or they might cause you trouble and danger. I’ve speculated that they come from different worlds, of course, they might be produced by demons, devils, angels, or maybe aliens, some kind of special creature, who knows.’

‘In any case, they have many magical effects and uses. If you’re lucky, you might acquire a decent item.’

‘If you want to purchase and take them away, you can take the product you want.’

‘Remember, you can only choose one item at a time, place it on the cash register, and then close your eyes and wait for a minute.’

‘After a minute, the product will automatically have a label attached indicating the price to be paid.’

‘Then…. you have to…..’

The rest of the text abruptly stopped, leaving only scattered red blood spots on the white paper, clearly visible.

The critical information was gone.

Li Chengyi had already been intrigued by the content on the paper.

A Blind Spot supermarket with all sorts of strange products??

So, what effects do these so-called strange products have?

He reviewed the contents of the paper again to make sure he had missed nothing before looking back up at the shelves in front of him.

‘What, exactly, is used to pay for these products?’

That was the key.

‘At the Blind Spot on Mist Street, every pull of the slot machine requires a part of your body as a price. If it’s the same here, then I may have to take a big risk, and it’s not worth purchasing items rashly.’

‘But if the currency is some other form of price….’

Li Chengyi was somewhat hesitant.

He thought for a moment, then began to wander around the little supermarket, searching shelf by shelf for clues.

He hoped to find a second hint on a piece of paper.

But unfortunately, after at least ten minutes of searching, he found no new clues.

Taking the Mixed Strawberry Apple Juice he had previously taken out, he stood in front of the cash register again.

He pushed the drink forward, gently placing it on the empty space of the cash register counter.

‘Then, is it to close my eyes and wait?’

He squinted at the cash register at the back, not closing his eyes but trying to find other clues to confirm the exact payment mode of this place.

Time ticked away.

Snap.

Suddenly, a faint sound echoed in the little supermarket.

It seemed like someone had run past the other side of the shelf.

Li Chengyi felt a sinking feeling in his heart and turned his head to the left.

However, his view was blocked by the shelves, and he couldn’t see anyone.

Bang!!

All of a sudden, a loud noise came from the right side door.

Li Chengyi turned his head again toward the glass door at the entrance, but there was nothing.

He saw nothing outside the door either.

Tap tap tap tap.

Behind him, the sound of hurried footsteps suggested someone was approaching quickly.

Li Chengyi felt a shiver down his spine, sensing intense danger, and spun around.

Likewise behind him, there was nothing.

Shh-rhk, a soft sound.

Just then, the cash register made a noise, as if someone was quickly checking him out.

Without hesitation, Li Chengyi emitted a burst of golden light, donning the Gladiolus Floral Dress.

When he looked back,

On the counter, his bottle now had a white label attached.

The label clearly read: Payment Pending, Ten Minutes.

‘Ten minutes? What does that mean!?’
