Chapter 86: First Farewell
Just as they fell into this dilemma, a trainee stood up from his seat, making all of them look at the young man.
"Where are you going?" Liang Jin asked.
"I’m going back to my room to pack my things."
They were stunned by his words.
"Su Ying?" Liang Jin looks surprised but the young man smiles at them.
"I want to prepare my things while waiting for them to be safe. Anyway, sooner or later I’ll leave. Instead of worrying about them all the time, I’ll just go to distract myself." frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Only did everyone come back from their senses. That’s right. It’s the elimination round today. Some have to leave today.
"Su Ying..." Liang Jin didn’t know what to say to his friend.
Su Ying looks at the reluctance from everyone’s faces and smiles again, feeling comforted by their worries for him.
"It’s okay. This is life, A’Jin. I’ve already expected this after the first challenge so when my name wasn’t announced, I’m not too affected unlike others."
Did Su Ying hope to hear his name? Yes, definitely. Everyone does. When his name was not on the list, Su Ying felt he already expected this result. There was a deep loss inside his heart but thinking about his friends, he didn’t want to show it.
Besides, if he will let himself be drawn to this failure, he’s afraid that he will be like others inside the clinic.
He can accept this goodbye but never if he goes on a riot.
As long as he won’t fall into that madness, there is still hope.
Liang Jin looked at him and didn’t know what to say to comfort. To say that it’s okay is not good. Who would feel okay if the opportunity to reach your dream was cut off? What is okay in this?
Some trainees also got up from their seats and said that they wanted to pack their things too.
Xing Ren looks at everyone, especially his roommates in Class F and pursues his lips. Feeling like he couldn’t say anything so he smiled at everyone. "Can we help?"
"Okay!"
Holding each other’s shoulders, they walk towards their rooms respectively. They also grab this opportunity to say their proper goodbyes to everyone they spent time with.
"Xiao Ren, I’m really glad that you made it to higher class. You’ve always been great." Su Ying said.
Xing Ren shook his head. "It’s no guarantee that I’ll sit in higher class all the time. The challenge was more likely about your compatibility to be inside the group so it’s way easier than being alone. I managed to advance thanks to my group. There’s no guarantee I’ll stay here for a long time."
"But it’s still good, isn’t it?" Su Ying had a slight bitterness on his face and he sat on his bed when they arrived at their room which was the Class F. He sighs. "There’s too many people who’s too good. If this happens again and again, I think I won’t have time on stage."
Xing Ren sat beside him too and didn’t say anything, just letting his friend express his sadness.
"I trained for more than five years. Everyday I danced and sang without a break. I really like the stage." Su Ying has a melancholy smile on his lips. "Every time I saw others, it made me eager to do great things like them. The stage is very beautiful, right?"
Xing Ren just nodded gently.
"It’s such a dream that our hearts wanted for so long. I thought I’ll have that chance yet I couldn’t help but think about what happened." Su Ying looks at his hands and caresses the calluses on his fingertips. "We’ve been too tortured by this. I just thought, if only there weren’t zergs or even mental strength, we don’t have to suffer this, right? Who can say it’s a blessing to have it when you’re suffering everyday?" He chuckles. "I actually envy Qin An when times like this."
Hearing that name, both of them didn’t notice how someone turned stiff behind them.
"He seems to be very free. Not having mental power is good too. Just by imagining we don’t have to feel pain every second looks very enviable."
"It’s not always a good thing, you know that." Xing Ren shook his head. "Mental power also gives us protection and strength. I heard that those who don’t have mental strength only live shorter than us if it weren’t for this physical strength. They can only live shorter lives and are very fragile to many things unlike us."
"What’s the point of living for so long when you’re in pain, Brother?"
"..." Xing Ren choked at that question.
"If only we were born in the past, don’t you think so? According to histories, their world is too backwards and our world is what they’re aiming to have. I wonder what will they feel if they know that living in this era isn’t that great?"
Silence engulfed them and seeing his friend getting down, Xing Ren finally took action. He took a small keychain from his pocket. "My Mom worked as a researcher. She wanted to know what life was like in the past and having researched many things on Earth, one thing that she realized is that humans there live to the fullest. Because they know they don’t have enough time to live, they explore things and wander around the world so they won’t die with regrets."
His fingers fiddle with the small ball of Earth made of glass on his hand. Maybe because he was influenced by his family that he really likes the Earth. Because of the environment he had grown up in and learned how humans in the past thought and worked hard for their unknown future, it motivated him to move forward to this blind fate.
Xing Ren is clear about the path he wants to take but what awaits him is very blurry, something he will feel scared of. Too timid to take a step forward anymore.
But, will that fear make him happy? Never.
"Su Ying, even if we live longer, should we also think like them? To live to the fullest and die without regrets. Death will always be inevitable no matter where we are so to live constantly, don’t we have to do things that make us happy? We love the stage. Does this failure stop you from dreaming?" He sighs.
"What about the trainees inside the clinic now? Don’t they also dream about being on stage? But aren’t we lucky? Even if we win or not in this competition, we’re luckier because we didn’t end up like them. You’re very aware about the possibilities of having riots. They might not be allowed to step on stage again."
Xing Ren tapped his shoulder.
"Su Ying, we will meet again. Next time, we’ll be together with our dreams, right?"
Su Ying’s eyes turn red and nod repeatedly. "Okay. I’ll see you soon, Brother."
..
Qin An looked at the young men inside this room comforting each other for this first farewell. He didn’t interrupt or join everyone’s conversation and just seemed to think about something.
Soon, he stopped leaning on the cold wall and went outside, still having thoughts inside his mind lingering.
