Chapter 123: Shen Lou’s Vulnerability

Qin An’s brows frowned deeper. Was this another ghost again?

The ghosts and even dark creatures are appearing frequently now. And he thinks that this is surely the beginning. He has not stepped outside and hasn’t seen the world. For sure there’ll be tons and tons of jobs waiting for him after this competition.

Qin An sighs.

"Brother Shen? What are you doing here?" Xing Ren asked but to their confusion, Shen Lou didn’t answer. Instead, the young man was just surprisingly looking at Bai Yue with an indescribable look on his face.

This made everyone stop and feel even more confused.

"Brother Shen? Is there something wrong?" Xing Ren asked again. Others looked back and forth to Bai Yue and him but couldn’t understand what Shen Lou was seeing.

A trainee asked Bai Yue if he knew him but Bai Yue shook his head and smiled shyly.

"We don’t know each other but I got a chance to see his performance. This classmate has been consistently good and powerful."

When Bai Yue starts walking towards Shen Lou, other trainees look at the young man with envy because he got the Senior’s admiration. However, just when everyone thought that it would be a pleasant greeting for the both of them, Shen Lou unexpectedly took a step backwards.

This made Bai Yue stunned and quickly looked at him with doubt.

"Is there something wrong?"

Yet again, Shen Lou didn’t answer and was just staring at him. When Bai Yue tries to walk closer again, he steps backwards again and for this second time, not only one step but a few steps away to Bai Yue.

"!!!" This made Bai Yue’s face couldn’t help but turn ugly for a second before he composed himself and tried to smile hesitantly. He put a slight aggrieved face and looked at him in confusion.

"Classmate Shen, are you okay?"

But before Shen Lou could respond, they suddenly saw Qin An walk fast towards them and without any further adieu, he took Shen Lou’s wrist and dragged him outside the room, leaving everyone dumbfounded.

Outside the practice room, Qin An continues dragging Shen Lou away until they both go outside the corner of the balcony wherein the camera won’t follow them.

Qin An looks at the young man with a seriousness on his face.

He saw it.

He saw how Shen Lou looked at Bai Yue.

It was not a look with an ordinary gaze at all.

... Shen Lou could see it. Qin An is sure that he is seeing other things than what other people cannot see in this world except for him.

"Shen Lou..." Qin An tries to call him back to his senses because the young man seems too shocked by what he had seen. When he didn’t respond, he was about to call out again when Shen Lou suddenly frowned and raised his hand to hold his own head.

This made him alerted and only did he notice the pollution on his head was slightly darker unlike his usual state. Qin An was stunned. What happened?

"Meow~"

A soft meows from a familiar cat sounded below them and he saw Black, who was out of the picture these past few days because he stayed with his owner.

Black looked at him and Qin An immediately noticed how the black mist exuding him is much denser too. Qin An was even more stunned. The cat’s state is obviously not normal and he even felt it was agitated for some reason.

Did something happen to them?

"Shen Lou, are you okay?" he asked again and this time, he finally responded.

He nodded with still a frown on his face. "I’m okay—" yet his words abruptly stopped. The young man’s pupil dilated in shock and Qin An could really feel the disbelief on his face.

His heart skips a beat, feeling a premonition arousing inside his heart.

And the next moment confirmed his hunch.

"B-Black?!"

"!!!"

Qin An was surprised. He could really tell that Shen Lou is looking at Black directly.

He could see the soul of his cat which is never supposed to happen.

"Meow!" Black was obviously surprised too but became excited after that. He ran back to his owner and was about to pounce when Qin An quickly grabbed it before it happened.

"Remember what I told you?" Qin An doesn’t care about being busted anymore and immediately warned the cat.

"Meow~" Black obviously remembered it so it could only meow aggrievedly and could only walk in circles anxiously. Qin An sighs.

He looked at Shen Lou who was staring directly at him and felt a headache with this new trouble again.

"Are you really not playing with me?"

It was already the third time that Shen Lou asked this question but even with this repeated one, Qin An only has the same answer, nodding firmly.

"..."

Shen Lou was speechless and became silent as he continued absorbing what just happened and he confessed.

Grim reapers? Souls? Underworld? Resentment and pollution? What the fuck?! Shen Lou couldn’t help but cussed inside his mind as for the first time, his worldview just turned upside down.

Who can tell him he was really not hallucinating right now?!

If it were him in the past, hearing these words would really make him look at the person as if he was crazy, but no. It was Qin An himself who told him these.

For a short period of time, he knew he was never a person who would joke around and tell him about the things they knew that never existed.

Besides... Shen Lou looked below him and saw Black sitting a distance away and was just looking at him quietly.

He was still like what he always remembered. Black was never a cat who would disturb his owner even if he wants to get clingy. As long as he noticed that his presence was not needed and he just wanted a space alone, he would not disturb him and just sat in the corner to wait patiently.

Cautious but will never leave.

Even after its death, Black never left him.

"Can’t I touch him?" he asked Qin An but the latter shook his head.

"The pollution in your head is much darker, which means it was either you are not emotionally stable right now or Black touches you when you haven’t seen him yet." Qin An told him instead.

"..." Shen Lou paused for a second before he answered. "It’s his death anniversary tomorrow."

It was Qin An’s turn to pause and look at Black. "His?"

Shen Lou nodded and sighs, a rare softness flash between his brows. Even after so many years, he could still remember what happened.

"It’s my fault for not sending him to the hospital for treatment immediately." If it were in his normal state, Qin An would never have known that someone like him would allow himself to express his vulnerability in front of others.

Just like how Qin An usually hides himself, Shen Lou himself is never a person who would allow himself to be weak in the eyes of other people.

But it seems like Black’s existence is way more important than he expected.
