Chapter 87: Chapter 82: This Hunter Warren, he’s simply her nemesis in life1

"I really wish we were up to something."

Faye gave him a glance and laughed silently, "How strange, now when you say this, I’m naturally immune to it.

Back when I first met you, I would have felt very awkward hearing such things."

"Does this mean you’ve gotten used to me?

Maybe in the future, I’ll even make my way into your heart."

Faye pursed her lips without responding.

Oliver got up and walked out, "Forget it, I won’t tease you anymore.

I have a private suite in the hotel.

I’ll go wash up there and wait for me to have dinner."

"Alright."

After Oliver left, Faye went into the bathroom. She asked Darnley to wash his face and hair, but unexpectedly, Darnley was diligently taking a bath.

"Need my help?"

"No need, you go keep my Dad company."

"He’s gone to another room to shower."

Sitting down with his back to her in the tub, Darnley said, "Dad’s not here, so Faye, help me wash."

Faye smiled helplessly. This kid, putting on a brave front in front of Oliver.

She rolled up her sleeves and went forward to help him rinse off.

"Faye, when are you going to get married?" Darnley asked, turning back to look at her with hopeful eyes.

Faye looked down at the little guy, "Why ask this?"

"If you’re going to get married, consider my Dad.

I think he’s a great guy."

Faye lightly tapped his head, "You rascal."

"I used to ask you to marry my Dad Kay.

But you said you and my Dad Kay were friends, not marriage material.

So can you marry my Dad?

My Dad likes you so much, marrying him wouldn’t be a loss."

Faye puzzled over the small head in front of her. Is this really a child?

Why are his words so unconventional?

"Faye, why aren’t you speaking?

When are you getting married?

I want a dad, so marrying my Dad isn’t perfect?"

Faye lifted the showerhead to wash the soap off his back.

"Your Dad is a good man.

But Mom has been married once, how can I be with your Dad?

It wouldn’t be fair to your Dad."

"But this afternoon, my Dad told me he doesn’t mind anything about you, he just wants to marry you."

Faye understood. So today, Oliver was trying to please Darnley, getting him to do some groundwork for her.

He really has a way with things.

"Darnley, do you want Mom to be happy?"

"Of course," Darnley nodded, turning to face Faye again, "I want both you and Miya, Dad Kay, and Dad to be happy."

"But if I marry your Dad, Mom won’t be happy.

In Mom’s eyes, your Dad and Dad Kay are both people she appreciates.

Dad Kay and Mom grew up together, we are like siblings, buddies, family.

Mom feels comfortable and relies on him.

He is Mom’s most important friend in this world.

And your Dad... he helped Mom when she needed it most, he’s her benefactor.

Mom is very grateful to him and, like you, hopes he will find happiness.

But gratitude isn’t a reason for Mom to marry him.

You’re still young, there are some things you don’t understand.

Mom wants a marriage full of love.

A marriage where Mom loves Dad and Dad loves Mom.

Not the way it is now, with your Dad making a one-sided effort.

If he married Mom, your Dad would be very burdened.

Your Dad is a good man; don’t you also want him to be happy?"

Darnley seemed to understand. He nodded unhappily.

"So, Dad won’t become my father?"

"How could that be, he and Dad Kay will always be your dads.

Even if we don’t get married, didn’t you always call him Dad?"

Darnley pouted, "But Dad said it’s really hard for you to do it alone.

He wants to take care of you, to make you happy."

Faye smiled and ruffled his hair. This kid, his brain really works well.

He remembers everything your Dad says.

"I... don’t want to get married for now.

Right now, I really enjoy the feeling of being with you all.

So... these things aren’t for us to discuss now.

Alright, you’re all rinsed, come out and dry yourself; I’ll get you clothes."

"Faye, Dad Kay said your previous husband hurt you.

Is that why you don’t want to get married?"

Faye, who was already standing, looked down at the little guy’s raised head and sighed.

"You little one, how much can such a small brain hold?"

"Dad Kay says I’m like him, smart."

"You’re like me, okay? Alright, enough with the useless talk, hurry out, I’ll be waiting for you."

Faye said, placing the towel on the sink and walking out.

"Faye, don’t worry, you have me now. I won’t let anyone who bullied you before get away with it."

Faye turned around in surprise, looking at him.

He won’t let Hunter Warren off?

For some reason, hearing this made Faye a little uneasy.

As she stood there, Darnley had already climbed slowly out of the tub and wrapped himself in a towel to dry off.

Turning, she walked out, closing the bathroom door behind her and sitting down on the couch, her mind in a whirl.

Father and son at odds, she dared not even imagine such a scene.

"Faye, where are my clothes?"

Faye snapped out of it, finally remembering she was supposed to get Darnley clothes.

"I’m coming, I’m coming," she quickly got up and opened the suitcase, finding a set of clothes to give Darnley.

As she returned, the hotel staff had just delivered their dinner.

Faye was drying Darnley’s hair when Oliver Turner returned.

As soon as he came in, he scooped Darnley up, "You must be starving after playing so hard today."

"I could eat a whole cow right now," Darnley stretched out his arms as far as he could.

"Alright, then let’s eat now and have a contest to see who can eat more."

Oliver carried Darnley to the dining table, and they really did start a competition.

Watching Darnley’s happy face, Faye ate while her gaze fell on Oliver.

Before, she thought Oliver was a cold, calculating man.

But seeing how he was with Darnley, she felt she could maybe change her view of him.

For the first time, she discovered that Oliver liked children.

He must also long for a child of his own.

But she could no longer fulfill that wish for him.

They really weren’t compatible.

He deserved someone better.

As if feeling her gaze, Oliver looked up at her then.

Faye smiled at him.

Oliver mouthed silently, "What’s up?"

Faye shook her head, "You two take it easy, don’t overeat or you’ll feel uncomfortable."

She put down her chopsticks, "I’m full, you two ought to eat less too."

"I’ve always heard people encouraging others to eat, but it’s my first time hearing someone advising to eat less."

Oliver said, putting down his chopsticks and ruffling Darnley’s hair, "Alright, kiddo, stop eating, I concede."

"Wow, I won, Faye, did you see that, I won!"

Faye gave Darnley a thumbs up, "You’re really something.

But you’re not allowed to complain about a stomach ache tonight."

"I won’t, I’m the big stomach king."

She could only smile helplessly.

After the server cleared the dishes, Oliver received a call.

Having something to handle, he left.

Darnley had been playing wildly all afternoon and was getting sleepy.

Once Oliver left, Darnley promptly climbed into bed.

"Faye, I’m sleepy, will you tell me a story?"

"Alright, but wait ten minutes, okay? I’ll take a shower and be right back."

"Okay, but hurry."

Faye searched for a cartoon on her phone and gave it to him.

While watching, he snuggled into the bed.

Seeing him being so good, she went to take a shower with peace of mind.

As little Darnley watched happily, the animation on the screen suddenly vanished, replaced by an incoming call.

Seeing a string of numbers, Darnley’s small index finger swiped across the screen to answer it.

"Hello?"

There was a full five-second pause on the other end, "Who are you?"

Darnley pouted, "How rude of you.

You’re the one who called, so you should say who you are first, then I can tell you who I am."

There was a moment of silence on the other end.

For the first time in his life, he was lectured by a child.

Yet, he wasn’t angry, "I’m Hunter Warren, what’s your name?"

"Oh, so you’re Hunter Warren.

I know you; you’re Faye’s ex-husband.

I also know what you look like; I saw you at the airport that day."

Hunter’s lips curled up slightly, "You’re Faye’s son, right? I remember you too."

"That’s right, I’m Faye’s son.

Faye has someone to rely on now; don’t think of bullying her.

I’ll protect her."

Faye has raised a clever son.

"Who told you I bullied her, was it Faye?"

"Of course not, Faye prohibits me from even mentioning you.

It’s my Dad Kay who told me.

Dad Kay is Faye’s best friend.

He knows you once bullied her."

"Kay Forrest?" Hunter folded his arms, it was rare for him to have such patience with a child.

"He’s lying to you.

It wasn’t me who bullied Faye, it was Faye who bullied me."

"I don’t believe you.

Faye never lies.

She wouldn’t bully anyone."

Hunter chuckled on the other end, "Alright, I won’t argue with you, where’s your mom? I need to talk to her, can you ask her to come to the phone?"

"My mom’s taking a shower, she can’t come to the phone."

Hunter frowned, "What’s your name?"

"I’m not telling you."

Then Hunter heard the sound of a beeping tone from the other end of the call.

He stared at his phone, surprised that he’d been hung up on.

This kid, he actually hung up on him?

Faye came out, patting her face as she walked to the bed, "What were you muttering about just now?"

"I wasn’t muttering, I was helping you answer the phone."

"Really? Who called?"

"Your ex-husband, Hunter Warren."
