Billionaire's Unforgettable Ex-Wife-Chapter 79 - 78 Six Years Later 2
Chapter 79: Chapter 78 Six Years Later 2
Faye Townsend looked at Oliver Turner, her gaze carrying a hint of guilt.
"I..."
"What, you still haven’t forgotten him?
It’s been six years, is your love for him really that deep?
Shouldn’t you completely move on from that relationship and start a new life, don’t you think?"
Faye lowered her eyes, not pulling her hand away.
Yet, her expression looked conflicted.
There were some things she really didn’t know how to explain to him.
She didn’t love him, and since she didn’t love him, how could they be together?
If it were someone else, she might just marry him.
After all, she knew very well that marrying someone who loves her more is a kindness to herself.
But this person happened to be Oliver Turner, a man she felt deeply grateful to in her heart.
It was precisely because of this gratitude that she couldn’t drag him into an unfair marriage.
She wished for his happiness, and that’s something she couldn’t provide.
By being with him, the only thing she could do was become a burden to him.
Maybe he’s still accommodating her now because he hasn’t won her over yet.
But if they really get married in the future, how would his one-sided emotional investment in the marriage be any different from her past marriage with Hunter Warren?
One day, her lack of love would hurt him deeply.
Eventually, would they not just go their separate ways?
In this lifetime, experiencing such heart-wrenching pain once is enough, so why drag him into it again?
"Faye Townsend, you can’t keep your heart shut forever.
You have to open a crack to let someone in, don’t you think?
I’m serious, marry me, give me a chance, and give yourself a chance too, okay?"
Just as Faye was unsure how to respond, Darnley shouted from the bathroom.
"Faye, I forgot to bring a change of clothes, can you bring it for me?"
"Oh, okay." Faye was so thankful that Darnley saved her at this crucial moment.
She withdrew her hand from Oliver Turner’s with a smile and said, "It’s Darnley’s first time bathing himself, I guess he thought the clothes were already in there."
Oliver Turner had just seen the little thoughts in her eyes.
He knew she wasn’t going to be easily swayed by him.
But anyway, he couldn’t scare her back before she even settled in the country.
They can talk again when she’s completely back and settled.
Faye opened Darnley’s suitcase, and found a T-shirt and a pair of cool little suspenders to take to the bathroom.
Darnley called out, "You can just leave it there and go out."
Seeing the foam around his ears not fully rinsed off, Faye smiled sideways and rolled up her sleeves as she walked over.
"Alright, come here, let mom rinse you off."
"No, then Oliver Dad will laugh at me.
I’m a man, I can do it by myself."
"Oliver Dad won’t laugh at you. When he was your age, his mom and dad helped him with baths too."
"Really?"
"Of course, you’re already very good at this.
Look, except for a bit of foam around your hair, you’ve cleaned everywhere else very thoroughly."
Darnley grinned proudly.
After his bath, Faye helped him dry off and then went out first.
Darnley could dress himself, so she didn’t plan to help.
Oliver Turner still sat in the same spot without moving.
"Finished?"
"Yeah, the first attempt turned out pretty good.
He only missed rinsing a little foam.
With a bit more practice, he’ll be able to do it himself completely."
Faye said as she took out her phone and walked to the bed, "Oliver, sit for a bit. I’m going to call Kay Forrest to let him know we’re safe."
She dialed Kay Forrest’s number.
Kay Forrest quickly answered, "Hey darling, did you arrive?"
"Yeah, we’re at the hotel now."
"And Darnley? Let Darnley talk."
Faye rolled her eyes: "Is it so exhausting to talk to me directly?
Too bad, Darnley can’t take the call right now, he’s bathing."
Kay Forrest laughed, "Jealous?"
"Alright, stop joking around with me.
Darnley is here thinking about Miya.
Don’t forget to check on Miya for me.
We’ve both left, she must be feeling lonely.
Be sure to comfort her."
"Got it, don’t worry. I’ll head to the hospital this afternoon.
It’s already dark over there."
"Yes, we’re going to have dinner with Oliver soon. I’m not going to chatter anymore, need to tidy up first."
Just as she hung up, Darnley came out.
Faye stepped forward to help dry his hair.
Seeing mother and son almost ready.
Oliver Turner got up, "Let’s go downstairs and order.
Clara is working late tonight, she should be here soon.
We can eat and wait."
"Sure."
The three of them went downstairs together and from afar they looked like a happy family of three.
Oliver Turner let Darnley order, but faced with these Chinese menu names, Darnley felt unfamiliar.
"Oliver Dad, there are lots of characters I don’t recognize and I don’t know which dishes are good."
Faye pursed her lips, "Our nanny is from Zurich, we usually don’t eat Chinese food, so why don’t you order?"
Oliver Turner waved to the waitress.
The waitress retrieved the menu, and Oliver ordered eight dishes, all signature dishes from the Theodore Avery Hotel.
Just as the dishes were served, Clara arrived.
Seeing Clara after six years, Faye was somewhat stunned.
Six years later, Clara had almost lost the vibrant aura she had six years ago.
The once curly, shoulder-length hair turned into a tidy short bob.
She wore a black business suit and high heels.
From a distance, she simply looked like a regular office worker.
The playful and confident look in her eyes was now gone.
Faye seemed to see a reflection of her hurt self from many years ago in Clara’s eyes.
"Faye, it’s been a long time."
Faye pursed her lips and got up to hug her, "Clara, long time no see."
As they separated, Clara’s gaze fell on the small Darnley sitting at the table.
"Wow, such a cute little kid, like a little doll."
"Auntie, dolls are for girls, I’m a boy."
The three adults were amused by Darnley’s words.
Faye ruffled Darnley’s hair fondly.
"Alright, alright, Auntie was wrong, little one, I’m Clara, you can call me Clara. Calling me sister doesn’t seem appropriate but by relation, you should call me sister.
And you, what’s your name?"
Darnley jumped off the seat and extended his hand to Clara like a little grown-up.
"Hi Clara Sis, I’m Charles Townsend, you can call me Darnley."
"Wow..." Clara exclaimed genuinely, extending her hand to shake Darnley’s and smiling, "Faye, your little guy has quite the presence."
Faye covered her mouth and laughed lightly, but clearly felt proud inside.
Considering Darnley’s age of five, his behavior showed exceptional maturity.
Oliver Turner sat with his legs crossed to one side, "Alright Clara, come sit down and eat."
"Okay." Clara settled beside Oliver Turner, facing Darnley.
Faye looked at Clara’s professional attire and asked, "Clara, have you started working now?"
Clara smiled faintly, "I’ve been managing at Oliver’s uncle’s company for three years now."
Faye looked at her in surprise, "I see, you’ve already developed a strong mature woman aura."
Clara chuckled, "You’re so good at exaggerating.
I only changed clothes today."
Faye also laughed, "How is it, is working at the company tiring?"
"It’s... alright." Clara turned to Oliver Turner, "It’s just that Uncle Oliver is quite picky, always finding fault."
Oliver Turner crossed his arms, "Being strict with you is for your benefit.
You wouldn’t want others saying behind your back that you only got the job through connections, right?
Besides, I’m paying you, so it’s only right to have high expectations."
Clara pouted and laughed towards Faye, "You heard that."
Faye giggled, "It actually makes a lot of sense."
"So I have no choice but to accept it."
Faye helped Darnley pick out fish bones.
Seeing Darnley eat with relish, Faye realized for the first time that her precious son actually liked Chinese food.
What surprised her even more was how much Darnley truly was his father’s son, having such similar tastes.
Hunter Warren liked fish, and so did Darnley.
Hunter Warren disliked cilantro, and Darnley barely ate cilantro as well.
After eating, Darnley seemed reluctant to leave Oliver Turner.
Having not seen him for a long time, Darnley tugged at Faye’s hand, "Faye, can Oliver Dad stay? I want him to play with me."
"No, your Oliver Dad is busy and doesn’t have time to play with you."
"But... it’s been so long since we last saw each other, I have so much I want to talk to Oliver Dad about."
Oliver Turner laughed and ruffled Darnley’s hair, "Son, how about you come home with me today?"
Upon hearing this, Darnley looked up expectantly at Faye, "Faye, is that okay?"
"What do you think?" Faye said, her face serious.
"Faye, let Darnley come with me tonight, rest assured, I’ll take good care of him."
Faye hesitated and said, "Darnley has never slept with anyone else at night, I’m worried..."
"Faye, I’m not a three-year-old, I can take care of myself.
Didn’t I promise Kay Dad I’d take care of you before?"
Clara meanwhile stole a sidelong glance and laughed.
Faye was speechless, "Yes, you’re not a three-year-old, you’re a five-year-old."
"Alright Faye, I’m not an outsider, even if I really can’t manage, isn’t there a nanny at home, just relax." Oliver Turner said, and it was genuinely hard for Faye to refuse.
Seeing that Darnley truly wanted to be with Oliver Turner, Faye hesitated for a moment before saying, "Okay, you mustn’t bother your Oliver Dad, be good."
"I know." Darnley was clearly very happy, though he wore a little grown-up face trying not to smile.
Oliver Turner picked him up and looked at Clara, "Clara, did you drive your car?"
"Yes, I drove myself, Uncle Oliver, you go on and take Darnley.
I’ve just eaten and need to take a walk to digest."
Faye pursed her lips and said to Clara, "Just right, I’m on a diet recently, I’ll walk with you."
