Back at Arata's Quarters
Laughter echoed through the lavishly decorated chamber, rich with silk-draped furniture, golden accents, and the scent of exotic perfumes. Seated on a luxurious chaise, Concubine Arata reclined in satisfaction, the memory of Mira's expression burned into her mind. The look of shock, of barely restrained fury, oh, how delightful it had been.
She let out another peal of laughter, her red and gold robes rustling as she shifted comfortably. "She looks like she was about to cry when she heard about my pregnancy."
Her personal maid, standing a few steps away, watched her mistress with a mixture of amusement and apprehension.
"Now that you've triggered Her Highness," the maid began cautiously, "do you think she'll kill His Highness' personal maids as well as the one's that will come after to prevent them from getting pregnant?" There was a flicker of curiosity in her eyes.
Arata smirked, her fingers lazily toying with one of her golden hairpins. "Mira won't let anyone carry Dimitri's child least of all some lowly human maid." She leaned forward slightly, her eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. "She'll definitely start getting rid of them. And Dimitri?" She chuckled darkly. "He won't even lift a finger to stop her."
The maid tilted her head. "But why? We all know how his highness hate people touching his personal stuff."
Arata waved a hand dismissively. "Because they were childhood sweethearts once. Their love turned bitter, but Dimitri still won't harm Mira, not truly. She's the only woman who can destroy his things, defy him openly, and walk away unscathed." Her smirk widened. "Anyone else who dared would be slaughtered."
Her maid nodded, but a new concern flickered in her eyes. She hesitated before speaking, voice barely above a whisper. "But, my lady... doesn't that put you in danger as well? If she's desperate enough, what's stopping her from harming you? And what if she finds out the truth about the child?"
For a brief moment, the room was silent.
Then Arata let out a low, amused chuckle, tapping her fingers against the armrest. "She won't have time to deal with me at least not yet."
She shifted, her smile turning into something far more sinister.
"First, she'll focus on Dimitri's personal maid. She'll be so fixated on eliminating that girl that she won't even glance my way." Her expression darkened, filled with a wicked sort of satisfaction. "And by the time she turns her attention to me, I'll be long gone from this mansion with Ramsey the love of my life. I finally get to leave this hellish mansion."
Her maid stiffened at the mention of the name, her fingers curling slightly against her apron.
"Ramsey... the real father?" she murmured, as if needing confirmation.
Arata let out another chilling laugh, leaning back into her cushions. "Of course. Dimitri is a pathetic impotent fool. For years, people whispered that his wives were the barren ones without knowing the truth."
She tilted her head, her voice dripping with mockery. "But once the truth gets out, oh... how the tables will turn. The great Beta Lord, incapable of fathering a child? He'll be a laughingstock." She sighed dramatically, placing a hand on her stomach. "Not that I particularly care about his reputation, but the irony is delicious, don't you think?"
Her maid remained silent, but the glint in her eyes spoke volumes.
Just then, another servant stepped forward, carrying a delicate porcelain bowl filled with an inky black liquid promting Arata and her maid to stop talking. The bitter scent curled into the air, and Arata's nose wrinkled in disgust.
Her personal maid collected the concoction. "You can go now." She ordered while the maid have a slight bow before turning to take her leave.
Arata scowled. "Must I drink this vile concoction now? You just decided to ruin my mood with it now that I'm having a great time."
Her personal maid nodded firmly. "You must, my lady. Until you leave the palace, you must continue drinking. Shadowmint is the strongest herb for masking a child's scent, it will completely blend with yours until birth. This way, His Highness, the Beta Lord, will never sense the truth. And no one even knows what the function of the herb as it can't be found in this country. I purchased it from another werewolves kingdom."
Arata exhaled heavily, but she took the bowl, bringing it to her lips. As soon as the liquid touched her tongue, her body shuddered in revulsion. The taste was worse than before, bitter, acrid, almost burning but she forced herself to swallow.
"Disgusting," she muttered, setting the empty bowl down.
Her maid bowed slightly, her tone reassuring. "But necessary, my lady. This is the only way."
Arata wiped her mouth with an embroidered silk handkerchief before a sly smile curled on her lips. "This mansion is about to drown in drama," she murmured, her voice tinged with cruel delight. "And I can't wait to watch it unfold."
She leaned back, exhaling in satisfaction. "That maid should curse her wretched luck for running into me that night. A shame, truly."
Her personal maid hesitated before stepping closer. "Speaking of which... My lady, what of her sister? We don't know if she had told her sister about that night incident."
Arata's expression darkened slightly before she let out a satisfied hum. "Oh, yes. Ramsey has agreed to handle it. He will capture the girl after all, keeping her as leverage is the best way to silence Dimitri's little pet before she gets any ideas."
A sharp glint of amusement flickered in her eyes. "Once Mira finally kills that maid and she will..." she shrugged elegantly, "we can link the disappearance of the sister to Mira as well."
Her maid's lips curled into a slow, pleased smile. "Just as you planned, my lady. It's going to be a great show."
Arata's eyes gleamed, her laughter ringing through the chamber once more.
"Oh, indeed," she purred. "And I'll have the best seat in the house."
