Chapter 12 - His Personal Maid.

Sorayah's instincts kicked in. Her hands shot up, gripping the blade with both palms. A sharp, searing pain tore through her skin as the metal cut deep into her flesh. Warm blood dripped onto the floor, the crimson staining the cold stone beneath them.

I can't die yet. Not in my enemy hands. I still have tasks to do hence I refuse to die yet. Sorayah thought to herself and just then....

"Fine! I agree to work for you!" she blurted out, her voice edged with both pain and defiance. Her burning gaze met his, unwavering despite the agony pulsing through her hands.

Dimitri stared at her for a moment before letting out a low chuckle, clearly entertained by her resilience. He lowered the sword, pulling it effortlessly from her grip.

"Good," he murmured, brushing a gloved finger against the fresh blood staining the blade. "That's a wise decision." He stepped back, his lips curving into a smug smile. "It's not nice to give up so easily, not without even trying, after all."

With a casual wave of his hand, he gestured toward the door.

"You can go to bed now. Your room is down the hallway." He paused, as if considering something. "Oh, and that other maid? She's there too."

His expression darkened slightly before he turned away. "Be here early tomorrow. There's still a lot for you to learn."

With that, Dimitri strode toward the exit, his heavy boots echoing through the chamber. The door creaked open, and just like that, he was gone.

Sorayah remained on her knees, her breath coming in shallow gasps. The sting in her hands was unbearable, but it was nothing compared to the rage boiling inside her. Slowly, she forced herself upright, cradling her injured palm as she stared at the door Dimitri had walked through.

Maybe... being Dimitri's personal maid wasn't the worst thing.

He was the Beta Lord, second-in-command to the Alpha Lord. If she couldn't stand beside Lupien, then perhaps standing beside Dimitri was the next best thing. Staying close to him meant learning more about the werewolf kingdom, understanding their weaknesses, their vulnerabilities.

And maybe, just maybe, she could come up with a way to kill them all in one devastating strike.

Just as they had slaughtered her family.

Her narrowed eyes gleamed with quiet fury as she clenched her fists, ignoring the blood still dripping from her wound.

With slow, measured steps, she left the chamber and walked down the dim corridor.

She entered the room Dimitri had assigned to her. It was modest, nothing extravagant, just a bed, a small table, and a window covered by thick curtains. But Sorayah barely noticed any of it.

Her eyes immediately landed on the bed across from hers.

Lily lay there, her delicate face illuminated by the flickering candlelight.

For a moment, Sorayah feared the worst, but then Lily's eyes fluttered open, hazy with exhaustion. The moment she saw Sorayah, relief washed over her features.

"Your Highness?" she whispered, her voice weak. Tears welled in her eyes. "I'm... I'm so sorry. You shouldn't be going through any of this. I....I'm useless."

"Stop saying that, Lily," Sorayah chided gently. She stepped closer, reaching for the girl's trembling hand and helping her sit up. "I'm fine. And I'm just glad you are too."

Lily exhaled shakily, pressing a hand against her ribs. "Thank goodness they only struck us five times. If it had been more..." She trailed off, shaking her head. "We recovered quickly, but... your Highness, we have to leave. We have to run away from this hellish place."

Her voice broke, and fresh tears streamed down her face.

"We can plan for revenge in secret, your Highness," she pleaded. "Rather than enduring all this suffering, we can escape and...." She clutched Sorayah's arm, her grip desperate. "Dimitri is ruthless. What if he decides to kill us tomorrow? He already has his eyes on us afterall. What if...."

Sorayah cut her off with a firm shake of her head.

"I will never run away, Lily."

Lily's breath hitched.

"That would make me a coward." Sorayah's voice was steady, unwavering. "And Dimitri won't kill us. He's already assigned me as his personal servant."

Lily's grip on her arm tightened. Her expression twisted with pure horror.

"Personal servant?!" she choked out. "No... no, no, no! You know what that means, don't you? That's a death sentence, your Highness!" Her tears fell faster, her voice laced with panic. "Staying close to Dimitri means your life is hanging by a thread! He doesn't want a personal servant, he just wants someone to break. It's obvious. He's a monster, Your Highness! Please, please, let's run away before it's too late!"

Sorayah exhaled deeply, her mind already made up.

"Monster or not, I'm already here," she said, her tone firm. "And I've already agreed. There's no turning back now."

Lily shook her head frantically. "But...."

"This position gives me advantages, Lily." Sorayah's voice softened slightly, yet it carried an edge of steel. "I'll be close to him. I'll learn more about him, his habits, his weaknesses." Her lips pressed into a thin line. "Remember this: Keep your enemies close. Make them trust you. Let them lower their guard... and then strike when they least expect it."

She let out a slow, heavy breath. "Dimitri loves toying and controlling people, to him... he's catching fun and would discard me soon when he's bored but that day might never come as I'll be the one to discard him instead."

"I will do anything to avenge my parents and my people," she murmured, her fingers curling into the bedsheet. "This little suffering? It's nothing compared to what my parents, my people endured. If I have to endure a little pain to get my revenge... then so be it."

Lily sniffled, her lower lip trembling.

"Your Highness..."

"If you're afraid, I won't stop you from leaving," Sorayah continued. "When the time is right, you can escape Dimitri's mansion." She turned to face Lily fully, her own eyes misting over. "But please... give me a little more time. That's all I ask."
