Betrayed by Fiance, Embraced by Hidden Tycoon-Chapter 75: Are You Happy Now?
Chapter 75: Are You Happy Now?
Abigail had suspected that Sawyer was Walter Jones’ son for some time, but hearing it from him still shocked her.
’Sawyer, so you’re really from the wealthiest family in this country...’ Abigail felt a wave of worry wash over her at the thought of standing beside him. Their social statuses were worlds apart.
There was no way his family would accept her. If Sawyer’s parents were to discover her father, Adam Snow, was as shameless as he was, they might reject her before she even stepped through their gate.
’Oh, Abby, this man is far too high for you to reach.’ She sighed deeply as she tried to hide her miserable smile, reflecting on how pathetic it felt to carry the Snow name.
She needed to be more serious about changing her last name to Lewis, her grandmother’s surname.
"Abby, why do you look distressed after hearing about my family?" Sawyer asked with concern. He feared that this girl might distance herself from him now that she knew he was the son of one of the wealthiest families in the country.
Abigail tried to push aside her worries about their different social backgrounds. She smiled at him as casually as possible and said, "Did I? I’m not distressed; I’m just surprised my guess was correct."
Sawyer remained skeptical of her words. He noticed that her gaze had changed, and he worried about how girls would react if they discovered his true identity: they would either run away from him or become overly clingy because of his wealth.
He was convinced that Abigail would choose to run away from him, as she seemed to be someone who didn’t take advantage of others.
"Abby, I hope the way you see me will remain the same as before. I hope you are not affected after learning about my family background," he expressed his worry.
When Abigail saw the emotions in Sawyer’s gaze, she instantly felt terrible about her concerns. It didn’t seem fair if she avoided him because of his family. Still, she needed to be honest with him about her feelings.
"Sawyer, I’m sorry..." she mustered the courage to look him in the eyes.
As she saw his disappointed and frightened expression slowly fade, she continued, "Regarding your affection for me, if I accept you, I’m worried it would cause problems if your family finds out about me one day. They might not accept me. And I believe they will..."
A small smile appeared on Sawyer’s lips upon hearing her words.
He didn’t focus on her other concerns; he only heard what he longed to hear: "I accept you..." This was the most important thing he wanted to hear from her.
"Abby, don’t think about my family too much. As I mentioned before, even though I’m the youngest in the family, I’m not involved in the J Group’s business," Sawyer’s eyes shone as he explained.
"What do you mean? Why aren’t you involved in your family business?" Abigail asked, confused.
What Abigail knew through what she read or watched in a TV drama was that children born into wealth would inherit their parents’ fortune, work for the family company, or receive funding from their parents to start their businesses.
"Although I can’t escape my family’s wealth, I refused to use the privilege and created my own opportunities," Sawyer replied. He paused momentarily, sighing as he gazed at the sky gradually turning orange.
"I’m sorry to ask, but why did you do that?"
"I don’t like my parents deciding my future," Sawyer answered without looking at Abigail, who was gazing at him curiously.
He continued, "Like, who will I marry? I don’t want them involved in my life choices. That’s why, as I grew up, I did what I wanted and set boundaries with them."
Abigail was stunned to hear his explanation. She had always wondered why he lived a carefree life; now she understood. He had his own reasons for doing so.
"So, Abby..." Sawyer turned to look at her when he noticed her silence, "If you’re worried about my family not accepting you, you can forget that worry. Because no one in my family has the right to decide who I will marry."
Sawyer’s confident words made Abigail’s heart race. A smile appeared on her face without realizing it, and her cheeks flushed slightly.
Seeing how adorable she looked, Sawyer couldn’t help but tease her. "Are you happy now after hearing my explanation?"
Abigail nodded shyly, genuinely happy. Her concerns about their different social statuses were slowly fading.
"So, do you accept me as your future husband?"
Abigail, "..."
Sawyer’s eyes brightened as he continued, "Abby, your silence means YES. So, can I declare now you are my woman?"
’Oh, my lord! This man has just trapped me with his words again! Seriously? How could he assume that?’
Abigail turned her gaze away, avoiding Sawyer’s intense gaze that could flutter her weak heart. She didn’t want to fall deeper into his trap.
Desperate for a distraction, an idea suddenly appeared in her mind. She hurriedly turned back to him.
"Sawyer, stop bugging me about that. I promised I would give you my answer, but not today. There’s something important to discuss. The call earlier was from your family, right? I read in the news that your grandfather is in the hospital?"
The teasing smile on Sawyer’s face slowly faded. His grandfather always managed to give him a headache even when far away from home.
After taking a moment to breathe and calm his annoyance about his grandfather, he replied, "The call was indeed from my grandmother. She asked me to return home..."
"Sawyer, let’s go back to the capital," Abigail said as she stood up from her chair.
They still had time to leave this secluded spot since the sun hadn’t set yet. If there were no problems on the road, they might arrive in the capital by seven.
Just as Abigail was about to walk inside, Sawyer grabbed her hand, shocking her. She turned to see him smiling at her, leaving her confused.
