Wang Ye took two steps forward, pulled out a $50 US phone card from his wallet, and said, “Here, forty-five US dollars.”
Zhang Ke reached out to take the phone card, looked at it carefully for a while but didn’t pay for it. Instead, he asked, “Why is this card so cheap? It’s not fake, is it?”
Clearly, he was trying to pick a fight.

But then again, everyone was just a teenager, not expected to be very sophisticated.
Making a fuss over this, Zhang Ke must have exhausted his imagination. He was probably still pleased with himself, thinking he finally got to “retaliate” against Wang Ye.
Wang Ye just smiled calmly, saying, “No matter how much I earn, it’s my hard-earned money. Even if it’s just one penny, it’s not disgraceful!”
Zhang Ke kept shaking his head, “Pathetic! That’s too damn pathetic! It must be hard for your family to send you here. Why don’t you focus on your studies? As he turned to leave, Zhang Ke quickly stood up and said, “Hey, don’t go! I’ll buy it, of course.”
Despite Wang Ye’s dismissive words, Zhang Ke still felt that he had gotten the upper hand, after all, he was the one who initiated the mockery.
And the sense of superiority, the feeling that he could beckon Wang Ye here merely by a phone call was indescribable…

It was just the two of them in the room, their third roommate seemed to be out.
