Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 275: A Knock on the Door
Chapter 275: A Knock on the Door
A knock on the door roused me up out of sleep, and I let out a soft groan. I was wrapped around Ronan like a boa, and I was so figgin’ comfortable that I really didn’t want to move.
Just as I was falling back asleep, the knocking came again, this time even more insistent.
"Ugh," I moaned, trying to roll over. However, just as I moved to get out of bed, Ronan’s arms tightened around me and pulled me back onto his chest. "I need to get out of bed."
"You need to go back to sleep. Someone else can answer the door," replied my Sloth, snuggling back into me. "Sleep is more important than anything else. We need more sleep." A yawn broke through his words, and I could hear his jaw popping as it tried to accommodate the movement.
"Pudding Pop," sighed Beau as he opened the door and poked his head in. "I hate to bother you, but we have someone at the door for a wish."
"How do they keep finding me?" I asked, wiggling my way out of Ronan’s grip. Maybe I wasn’t the one being the boa constrictor in the bed cause that man had a firm grip on my body.
"You might want to ask the house that," replied Tank from where he was standing in the corner of the bedroom. That was a bit creepy, I would have to admit, but at the same time, it made me feel safe.
What can I say? I never claimed to be sane.
"Ugh, fine," I grumbled again as I snapped my fingers and changed my clothes. "Let’s go see what the Devil dragged in."
-----
Daddy was standing at the door; his arms crossed in front of him as he glared down at whoever had been knocking at this ungodly hour.
"Morning," I croaked, slipping under his arms and forcing him to hug me. "What’s going on?"
"He says dat he was lookin’ for de swamp witch," grunted Désiré narrowing his eyes on whoever was at the door. "He walked through a doorway and ended up on the other side of the bridge."
"Can... can you help me?" murmured a broken voice, and I turned around to finally see who had woken me up.
The man was probably in his thirties, but with the way he was looking, he could have also been in his 60s, for all I knew. There wasn’t a part of his skin that hadn’t been carved up or stripped off; even his head had been completely shaved off with long strips of flesh and blood exposed. freēnovelkiss.com
His left eye was completely swollen shut, and almost every finger on his hand was broken. With the tattered clothes he was wearing, it looked like he had one foot in the grave.
"What did you do to deserve that?" I asked, cocking my head to the side as I continued to study the man.
"Nothing," he hissed back; fire and rage appeared in his eyes as he glared at me. "I did nothing to deserve this!"
Looking down at his heart, I could see it glowing red as the seed of wrath merged with his human heart, turning him from human to hybrid.
Interesting.
"Then whoever did this to you clearly had more time on their hands than the average bear cause that amount of torture would require a lot of time to complete," I shrugged. As I continued speaking, the man’s eyes got bigger and bigger, and the rage he was feeling toward whoever had done this to him was now directed at me.
"You are a fucking bitch," he hissed, his face twisting into something unrecognizable. "What happened to compassion? To empathy? You are no better than the man who did this to me after killing my wife and kids."
Looking down my nose at him, I could feel the tension coming from the men behind me.
"And?" I scoffed. "It is my door you came knocking on. Why do I need empathy for you when you are nothing to me? Please. And I am better than the man who did that to you because if it was me, I would at least be sure to finish the job."
The man’s mouth dropped open, but no words had come out.
"I assume you are here for a reason?" I continued. I really wanted to crawl back in bed with Ronan and take another nap.
"I have a wish," growled the man, his face twisting into something inhuman. "And as the swamp witch, it’s your job to grant it."
Tank’s growl caused the man to turn pale, but I simply held up my hand. I was wrapped tightly in Daddy’s arms, and I was perfectly fine. Besides, granting wishes was fun.
"Sure," I purred, my smile bright as I studied the man. "What is your wish?"
"I wish to be strong enough that no one can ever hurt me again," growled the man, his eyes flashing red as the demon inside of him took control.
He never offered a sacrifice; he didn’t say any sweet words or tell me what he was willing to give up, and I didn’t bother to ask. I would rip his soul out of his body, and that was that.
"Deal accepted," I nodded, my smile becoming even brighter as I thought about all the ways this wish was going to be fucked up. "But you really should have been more careful."
The look of confusion on his face was enough to make me laugh as he dropped to his knees and started screaming. Unable to hold that position for long, he collapsed on my front porch as he twisted and writhed in front of me.
His bones snapped back in place all at once, the pain of it all causing the man to lose his voice, and he opened his mouth to the heavens. Too bad he picked the Devil to grant his wish, God might have been more forgiving.
