Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Truth

"There’s nowhere left for you to run. I’d advise you to surrender and come along quietly. I mean, do you think you stand any chance of defeating me?" Inquired Raven coldly, as he cornered Alphonse at the dead end of an alley.

"D-Damn it, that useless little-...and after oh so boldly declaring that he’d buy me time too, what bullshit!"

"Seriously, you’re blaming him? The guy you deceived and used for your own benefit?" Responded Raven in disgust.

"Shut up, you damned freak! I will not be lectured by the likes of you! Do you...do you have any idea who I am?!" Snapped Alphonse, trembling as he glared up at Raven.

"Sure I do, you’re a pathetic, conniving, cornered little rat," Smirked Raven tauntingly, looking to buy some time.

He’d left a trail of shedded scales for the others to follow, and was waiting for them to catch up. He had his senses sharpened too, in order to detect them once they were closeby.

He was currently hovering above the buildings on either side of the alley, with Alphonse cornered below, desperately and frantically trying to think of a way to get out of this situation.

"F-Fuck you! I...I refuse to let it end like this!" Exclaimed Alphonse, before starting to sprint forward.

Raven let out a sigh before unleashing a swirling fireball down at the alley, which roared down rapidly and slammed onto the ground in front of Alphonse, who let out a startled yell and stumbled back, falling down with a thud.

"Come on, did you really believe you could get away from me that easily? You should’ve just stayed hidden for the rest of your miserable life...you may be a lot less delusional than most of the other rotten Nobles I’ve encountered, but thinking that you could threaten us with just one person on your side was pretty stupid. And to get even that one person to join you, you had to trick him. Talk about pathetic," Scoffed Raven condescendingly.

"G-Go fuck yourself!"

He then flinched and shrunk back towards the wall of the dead end as Raven swiftly swooped down and landed in front of him, trembling in fear as Raven stared down at him icily.

"Alright, I should get to restraining you and take you in now. But before that, I’d like some answers, and I encourage you to cooperate. Things are gonna get pretty damn painful if you refuse. Maybe I’ll start by burning your dick off," Threatened Raven, as his eyes began glowing.

"N-No, stop! I...I’ll tell you whatever you want to know!" Blurted out Alphonse in terror.

"Glad to hear it. I think this one question should cover most of what I want to know...what exactly were you trying to accomplish with the summoned Hero?" Inquired Raven, narrowing his eyes at Alphonse.

"I...at first, I was just trying to survive. After Exalt was defeated, I knew that I had no future in this nation. I knew that I’d be executed if the Knight Order captured me, so I ran and hid. But I couldn’t do that forever, it would only be a matter of time before the Knights caught up to me...so I looked for a weapon I could use to protect myself.

I came across the blueprints for the abandoned mansion in Flourite Forest, and that it had been used to store Grimmoires and Ancient Magic Artifacts. But most of them must have been cleared out when the mansion was abandoned, I couldn’t find anything at first...and then, I came across the Hero Summoning Ritual."

"I see, so that’s how it happened. Go on, continue."

"O-Okay. I then carried out the ritual, which resulted in Akila being summoned to this world. Despite his power, I was under no delusion that I could overthrow the nation with just myself and a single summoned Hero, especially after I lost the Summoning Ritual. Damn it, I...I should’ve just summoned as many Heroes as I could, I was too cautious.

But there was no guarantee that I’d be able to deceive any others the way I did with Akila, that naive fool believed everything I said! So, I thought I’d use him to try and hurt the nation as much as possible...using him, I wanted to kill as many of you Irregulars, the Royals and Knights as possible, as revenge for ruining my life.

If only Exalt has succeeded, you damned Commoners would have been put in your places and we Nobles could have lived our ideal lives, wanting for nothing! Of course I was furious at losing that, who wouldn’t be?!"

"Literally everyone besides you and those other assholes. You people started this because you couldn’t stand the idea of Commoners being given basic rights...you brought this on yourselves. And even after everything that happened with Exalt, you still didn’t learn your lesson," Responded Raven.

"No, I knew I couldn’t pick up where Exalt left off after you people executed so many of my fellow, like-minded Nobles, but...but at the very least, I could inflict a few scars by killing as many of you as possible! At least, that was my hope...but I failed. In the end, I couldn’t even bring about so much as a single death!

It’s all his fault...that naive do-gooder, he was too afraid to kill people, the damned coward! What a waste of my fucking time, I did everything I could to help him get stronger, and that’s how he repays me?! All he had to do was kill a few people, that’s it! Fuck! I should’ve just used an Enslavement Collar on him like I’d initially planned, then maybe-...!" Yelled Alphonse, before trailing off as he suddenly sensed a presence nearby.

It appeared abruptly, on top of the building to the left of the alley, before his eyes widened as he lifted his gaze up, to see Akila staring down at him with a furious look on his face.

"H-How...?!"

"Simple. I left a trail for the others to follow, they showed up when I swooped down into the alley. They used a detection blocking barrier to avoid being noticed by you...but now, there’s no longer any need for them to hide," Explained Raven, as Tacitus deactivated the barrier.

A thud then echoed out as Akila jumped down and landed in the alley, before marching over towards Alphonse and grabbing his collar, lifting up with an enraged look in his eyes.

"H-How...how could you?! I...I trusted you, I thought you were my friend! But that whole time, you were lying to me, all of it was a lie! You tried to make me kill innocent people, I almost did something I’d never be able to take back! How the hell could you do something so terrible?!"

"N-No, I...I was just buying time, n-none of what I said was true! Y-Yeah, I was just distracting him, that’s all, I was-..."

"Enough! No more lies...I won’t be deceived by you anymore," Akila cut him off icily, before letting go of his collar, dropping him and stepping back as he clenched his fists, his shoulders trembling in anger.

"You should go ahead and beat the shit out of him for tricking you, he definitely deserves it," Remarked Lexia.

"Yeah, that should help you feel better, there’s nothing quite like hearing the screams and pleading of your enemies to let off some steam," Added Colt with a smirk, as Alphonse’s face went pale.

"You two are really bad influences," Sighed Celia in exasperation, right as a sharp cry of pain rang out, as Akila drew back his fist and slammed it against the side of Alphonse’s face, a trickle of blood running down the corner of his mouth.

"Come on, that’s it? You can do a lot more than just a single punch," Responded Colt I’m disappointment, as Akila stepped back.

"No. There’s no point in doing that, it won’t accomplish anything. Just throw him in prison and let him feel the weight of his actions," Akila shook his head with a grimace.

"Yeah, that won’t happen, his stay in prison will be a short one. Considering everything he’s done, he’s all but guaranteed to be executed, he’s guilty of some pretty horrific crimes. Most recently, the child he sacrificed to conduct the Hero Summoning Ritual," Chimed in Aster.

"Wh-What?" Stuttered Akila, his eyes widening in horror.

"Yeah, according to the documents on the ritual that the Commander confiscated from the abandoned mansion, the Hero Summoning Ritual requires a human sacrifice. Specifically, a child who hasn’t yet awakened their Magic. We awaken our Magic at around the age of ten, the child he used to summon you was an eight year old boy he abducted from an orphanage," Ravella informed him, before glaring in disgust at Alphonse.

"N-No..."

"After we got to that part, the Commander had all the documents destroyed, so that the ritual will never be used again," Remarked Tacitus, as Aster brought out a pair of handcuffs from his Storage Ring.

"That’s probably a part of the reason why he didn’t summon any other Heroes. Since you’re a good person, he couldn’t afford to let you find out that he sacrificed a child to summon you," Added Raven.

"Y-You bastard...go burn in hell," Uttered Akila in disgust, as Aster snapped the cuffs around Alphonse’s wrists...fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
