Chapter 130: Chapter 130: Be On Your Best Behavior

"Ready to head out?" Inquired Raven, stretching his arms up as he stifled a yawn.

"Mhm, super ready! This is really exciting, I wonder what the nation of Sylph is like? And I’ve never seen an Elf before, all I really know about them is that they live for a really long time and have long, pointy ears," Grinned Celia, a look of anticipation on her face.

"There’s still a little bit of time left, but we should probably get going, better to be too early than too late, after all. You’re in charge here while we’re away, Ravella, good luck, sis," Raven called out to his sister.

"This is bullshit...I wanna go too, damn it! I mean, who knows if I’ll ever get a chance to visit a different nation, why’d I have to get left out?" She grumbled, a grumpy look on her face.

It was the 15th of May, 1919, over a week had passed since the nation of Sylph agreed to hold a conference with Persona.

The conference was set to be held the next day, with the group from Persona expected to arrive in the nation today. It was around 6:45 AM in the morning, and they were supposed to depart at 7 AM.

"Hey, cheer up, we’ll be sure to bring you back some souvenirs," Replied Celia wryly, as she patted Ravella’s shoulder.

"I suppose there’s no point in whining about it, it’s not like that’ll change anything...this still sucks though. Well, I’ll see you two when you get back...be careful out there and get home safe," Muttered Ravella, hugging the two of them despite her bad mood.

Raven then took out a Teleport Spell, before activating it as Celia took hold of his hand, the two of them teleporting to Amethyst City, where the others were waiting for them.

To reach Sylph, they’d need to cross the bridge between the two nations, The Great Persylph Bridge, which had been built a few centuries ago, but had hardly been used in recent times.

The bridge was right by the eastern border of Amethyst City, so the group would be departing from there. There were several fancy, gilded carriages lined up, ready to head out.

"Weird, why are we traveling in carriages instead of motor vehicles? Wouldn’t that be faster and safer?" Wondered Celia curiously. freēwēbnovel.com

"Hey, you two, how’s it going?" Colt greeted them with a wave as they walked over.

"Pretty good, I’m excited for this...though, Ravella’s pretty bummed to be missing out," Responded Celia, as she glanced at the carriages.

"Yeah, Lexia was in quite a foul mood herself, I just hope she’s calmed down by the time we get back. Knowing her, I’d say that’s fifty-fifty," Grinned Colt wryly.

"Tacitus was the exact opposite, he just saw it as more work, so he was pretty pleased to have not been picked," Chimed in Aster as he walked over.

"Yeah, I can imagine," Laughed Raven in response, before adding, "You seem like you’re in an especially good mood."

"Well, yeah, how could I not be? The new designs for the Knights’ uniforms that I submitted has finally been put into effect. Everyone looks so much cooler now, it’s awesome!" He grinned cheerfully.

"I’ll admit, it does look pretty nice," Replied Raven in agreement.

The new uniform consisted of a black coat with a red outline around the hems and a choice of either black trousers, shorts or skirts, and Aster had managed to convince Jules to allow the Knights to wear whatever they want under the jacket, and most of The Irregulars had opted to go with their old outfits under the jacket.

"It’s good to hear that, Tacitus has been nothing but indifferent, which is pretty disheartening after all the work I put into coming up with this design," Sighed Aster in exasperation.

"Bet he’s going to use this opportunity to slack off as much as possible," Remarked Celia with a shake of her head.

"Oh, I have absolutely no doubt that he will. About a week ago, the Commander asked him to create a bunch of Teleport Spells to make our journey faster. Since we don’t have any Teleport Spells linked to any locations in Sylph, he was tasked with creating fixed-distance Teleport Spells, that are also capable of teleporting large groups, including carriages. Basically, he had to create a Teleport Spell that was almost completely new...he grumbled a bunch at first, until realizing that it meant that he’d be excused from his patrol duties," Sighed Aster in exasperation.

"But, knowing him, I bet he pulled it off," Replied Raven in response.

"Yup, he sure did. He managed to make five such Teleport Spells, though he said they’ll burn out after ten uses each. It should be enough to cover about eighty percent of the distance across the bridge, so it won’t get us all the way to Sylph, but it will save us a tremendous amount of time. He also made several Teleport Spells linked here, so that we’ll be able to make a quick getaway in case things get ugly," Explained Aster, before adding as a couple more Knights appeared, "Alright, looks like everyone’s here now. We should be heading out soon."

"Hey, kid! It’s good to see you!" One of the Knights greeted Raven as he jogged over.

Hart Riner, the Knight who was friendly to Raven and Ravella when they were kids, he’d been picked as a member of the Queen’s guards for this mission as well.

"Hey, Hart, it’s good to see you too," Responded Raven with a smile.

"Looks like you’re doing well, I’m glad to see that. How’s your sister?"

"She’s doing fine, how’s everything with you these days?"

Besides the four Irregulars and Hart, who was now a First-Class Knight, the rest of the Knights who were chosen as guards included the Vice-Captains of the First and Second Squads, Wein Beryl and Jacks Aldi, respectively, and two more First-Class Knights, Arren Rowser, the Teleporter from the First Squad, and Tilda Malachite. And with Jules, that made for a total of ten guards.

"Alright, now that everyone’s here, it’s time to begin our journey to the Elven nation of Sylph! We have five carriages here, the Queen’s carriage will be positioned in the middle, while the other four will be on either side of, and in front and behind, her carriage. Captain Aster Stark and I will ride with the Queen, while the rest of you will split into pairs and ride in each of the other carriages.

Stay sharp and on high alert, be ready to respond to any threats at a moment’s notice! While we will be covering most of the journey’s distance using teleportation, that’s no reason to let our guards down. Now, as for after we arrive in Sylph...this should go without saying, but make sure to be on your best behavior at all times, don’t cause any trouble under any circumstances, and-...!"

"Come on, Jules, they’re not children, I’m sure they know how to conduct themselves," Interrupted Lyra with a wry smile, as she poked her head out of her carriage.

"Yes, but-...very well, your Majesty. And I must ask that you remain inside the carriage at all times, for your own safety," Responded Jules, looking a bit tense.

"Yeah, I know, I’ll be careful once we head out," Replied Lyra, before waving at Raven with a smile, "Hey, Raven! It’s good to see you again!"

"Uh...yes, likewise, your Majesty," He responded with an awkward bow of his head.

"Alright, everyone, pair up and pick a carriage, we’ll head out as soon as everyone’s boarded. Oh, and also, I’ve included guidebooks in each carriage, they contain information about Sylph and the Elves, as well as details on how to conduct yourselves to avoid offending them. Now, then, let’s board the carriages and begin our journey. Captain Aster, you’re with me," Remarked Jules, before making her way towards the center carriage.

"Right behind you, ma’am! Well, I’ll see you guys once we arrive in Sylph, later," Waved Aster as he jogged after Jules.

"We’re pairing up with each other, right?" Celia asked Raven with a smile.

"That’s what I assumed, yes," Nodded Raven, as he patted her head.

Colt decided to pair with Hart, while the Vice-Captains each paired up with one of the two remaining First-Class Knights.

Once each of the pairs were seated in the carriages, Jules activated one of the Teleport Spells that Tacitus had created.

After his experience with creating Summoning Spells for the Ancient Magic Items in the hidden vault, he began experimenting more with Magic Crystals, and utilized them to create this Teleport Spell.

By embedding a Magic Crystal onto each of the carriages, everything inside and attached to the carriages would get teleported a kilometer ahead.

As Jules activated the Spell, the carriages teleported onto the bridge, before she activated it several times in succession, switching to another one as the Spell Card burnt out.

By the time all the Spell Cards got used up, the carriages had covered most of the distance across the bridge, though they were still approximately about an hour from reaching the end.

The Knights kept an eye out as they then proceeded to cover the rest of the distance without the aid of teleportation, but there was nothing in sight to be concerned about, things were nice and peaceful as they progressed across the last stretch of the bridge.

And before they knew it, the end of the bridge came into sight, a pair of large gates had been set up, with Elves standing guard.

"Huh, so those are Elves. Other than the ears, they don’t look any different to humans," Remarked Celia, as she peered out the carriage window.

"Hm...their scents are a lot different to humans, even their Mana smells different," Responded Raven, his nose twitching before adding, "Also, wow...the air around here is so...so clean. I feel like I don’t even have to suppress my sense of smell all that much."

As the carriages approached the gates, the guards opened the gates and let them in after verifying who they were, seeming to be pretty surprised at how quickly they had arrived.

As the carriages drove in through the gates, they were met with lush greenery as far as the eye could see, the sound of birds chirping and leaves rustling echoing out as a gentle breeze blew across the area.

"Wow, this is really nice," Grinned Celia in awe.

"I know, right? The vibe here feels so...peaceful," Nodded Raven in agreement, feeling pleasantly relaxed and at ease.
