Hearing Chief David’s voice, Jack looked up and found that besides Chief David, Aix had somehow been released and was standing next to Chief David.

"Oh, okay." Jack responded and got up, walking towards where Chief David was.

Once Jack got closer, Chief David began to speak: "Jack, Aix, I’m assigning you two a task. In a few days, the special task force investigating the live murder case will be stationed at our police station to investigate today’s case, so we need a big office. Your task is to clean the room on the south side thoroughly."

Upon hearing this, Jack immediately understood the task force’s intention. They were using the guise of case investigation to monitor him closely, trying to find evidence that he was the Dark Law Enforcer.

But where could they easily find such evidence?

Jack smirked and nodded in agreement: "Okay, I’ll go right now."

Meanwhile, Aix stood nearby, observing Jack’s every move with an expressionless face, his face consistently wearing a smile.

"Alright, you two hurry up and clean. The task force might arrive as early as tomorrow."

Chief David instructed then turned and left.

Only Jack and Aix were left in the courtyard.

The two exchanged glances, with a profound meaning in their eyes.

After a while, Aix broke the silence first. He scratched his head and asked, "Hey, Jack, did Team Leader Tom from the task force question you?"

"He did, during lunch," Jack replied.

Upon hearing Jack’s admission, Aix paused, curiosity getting the better of him as he continued to ask, "So what did he ask you?"

At this point, Jack couldn’t confirm Aix’s identity. He also didn’t understand the purpose of Aix’s questions. The reason he answered truthfully without reservation was to conduct a counter-inquiry through Aix’s probing, to see how Aix would react.

This thought briefly flashed through his mind, and Jack paused for a moment before responding, "Nothing special, really, just chit-chat. He asked about my hobbies and personality, and that’s about it."

At this point, Jack pretended as if he suddenly remembered something and cautiously asked, "Aix, why did Team Leader Tom go to the interrogation room to find you?"

Initially, Jack didn’t expect to extract any useful information from Aix, but what Aix said next took him by surprise.

"He questioned me, but his questions were not ordinary." Aix’s face showed a smug expression, as if boasting. Then he looked around, moved close to Jack’s ear, and whispered, "Let me tell you, but you mustn’t tell anyone else."

Seeing Jack nod, Aix continued speaking quietly: "Team Leader Tom first asked about the situation when Adam died, and then suddenly asked me if I knew who the Dark Law Enforcer was."

"And how did you answer?" Jack asked.

Hearing Jack’s question, Aix looked at Jack as if he were an idiot and said matter-of-factly, "Of course I said I didn’t know. If I knew who the Dark Law Enforcer was, I would have caught him and claimed the Los Angeles Police reward by now. Would I still be staying here?"

"Makes sense. So, did he ask you any other questions?"

Jack laughed awkwardly, pretending to have just figured it out.

"He did." Aix answered honestly with a naive look: "He also asked me, if the Dark Law Enforcer were in the North Suburb police bureau, who I thought it would be?"

At this point in the conversation, Jack’s vigilance rose sharply. He was sure that Aix hadn’t told the truth, or rather, hadn’t told the whole truth.

Such an inquiry style must be based on absolute trust in what the interrogatee says. Otherwise, once the Dark Law Enforcer knows, they will become vigilant, making it even harder to find them.

However, from what Aix told him, Jack couldn’t find a reason that would make Tom instantly trust Aix.

Thus, Jack was certain that even if Aix hadn’t lied, he must have hidden something.

Although it felt like he had thought a lot, in reality, Jack only thought for about three seconds.

"So who do you think it would be?" Jack asked.

"I think," Aix squinted his eyes and deliberately drawled as if in thought, "I think you’re the most suspicious."

Hearing this, Jack was stunned for a moment, quickly calculating in his mind, thinking that Aix was probably deliberately testing him. So, he pretended to be angry and said, "Hey, you can’t joke about this kind of thing. What if Team Leader Tom takes it seriously? Catching me is one thing, but if it delays the capture of the real Dark Law Enforcer, how will you explain it!"

"Hahaha, look how scared you are." As soon as Jack finished speaking, Aix laughed heartily.

After laughing enough, he patted Jack’s shoulder and continued, "I’m just teasing you. How would I know if you’re the Dark Law Enforcer? Moreover, this is the task force’s investigation, not something I should worry about."

Saying this, Aix bypassed Jack and walked towards the room Chief David had mentioned. After walking some distance, his lazy voice reached Jack’s ears: "Jack, hurry up and clean. Otherwise, you’ll be scolded later."

Upon hearing this, Jack shook his head and turned to follow him.

Ever since cleaning the room that day, Jack had been pondering over what Aix said, speculating on what role Aix was playing in all this.

Because, while both of them were suspected, and Aix was even more suspicious, the task force had no reason to only keep an eye on him.

Thinking about this, Jack, sitting at the reception window of the police station, looked up at the group of detectives sitting in the hall. They claimed to investigate anyone who might be the Dark Law Enforcer. Jack slightly furrowed his brow, though it was not noticeable.

Such obvious surveillance, anyone who isn’t a fool would notice it.

But all this was clearly aimed at him. If Aix was similarly suspected, there was no reason for him to not have these people following him as well.

As he thought about this, all the questions focused on Aix.

Who exactly is he? freewebnσvel.cøm

What exactly did he talk about with Tom in the interrogation room that day?

If he could find out the answers to these two questions, he could clear himself from these people’s suspicion. Although the task force couldn’t prevent him from carrying out Judgement, constantly being followed by these policemen was definitely inconvenient.

While Jack was thinking, in the North Suburb police station’s task force office, Hu Xiang was pacing anxiously in front of Tom, looking full of grievance.

Tom, on the other hand, was sitting at his desk, leisurely reading a file, dizzy from Hu Xiang’s back and forth wandering. He put down the file, grabbed Hu Xiang, and asked helplessly, "I say, brother, what exactly do you want by pacing in front of me?"

"I just want to know, why haven’t we arrested anyone yet? We’ve been sitting here every day for a week, time is running out, old Tom!" Hu Xiang sat down next to Tom, urging him in a low voice.

"Sigh..."

Hearing Hu Xiang’s words, Tom sighed, his tone filled with helplessness: "Do you think I don’t want to arrest someone? The current situation is, we have no evidence at all, how can we arrest anyone? Do you know his background? His grandfather is our immediate superior’s superior, his father is the Chief of Police in Southern California. Arrest someone without evidence, and we might not be able to keep our police uniforms!"

Hu Xiang was straightforward and couldn’t stand those second-generation rich kids who relied on power and wealth. So, when he heard Tom’s words, although he was surprised by Jack’s background, he turned his head, stubbornly and unwillingly said, "So what if he has a background? Does that mean we can’t arrest him?"

Seeing Hu Xiang’s manner, Tom sighed again.

Hu Xiang was a veteran, recommended by the military to join the local criminal investigation team, straightforward, hates evil like an enemy, especially despising those princelings who bully others. Over time, he managed to offend many big shots.
