Chapter 191: Rooftop

Meanwhile, Elena kept herself busy by reviewing the kids’ homework.

She was determined to ensure they continued learning, even amidst the chaos unfolding outside.

In her eyes, knowledge was power—something that could protect them in the future.

She didn’t want them to grow up naïve, easily misled, or unprepared to face the world.

Aside from that, she also paid close attention to their emotional well-being.

The last time she asked them to draw how they felt about recent events, some images were alarming.

Little Lucy, for instance, had drawn a huge tsunami, clearly expressing her fear of water.

After that, Elena gently encouraged her to swim in the Eastern Lake with her brother Daniel to help her confront that fear.

The results were encouraging. Lucy was no longer afraid and could now easily float on the water.

She also turned her attention to Angela, who deeply feared insects.

To help her cope, Elena had her watch documentaries and movies about insects—even the ones that made them look scary.

It was a small but meaningful step—helping Angela slowly face her fears, one scene at a time.

"Everyone, it’s time for an educational movie. Please join your sister Angela in watching a documentary about insects," Elena announced.

"But Little Mia is scared. I don’t want to watch, Sis Ewe," Little Mia protested, clinging to the nearest cushion.

"Don’t worry, Little Mia. I’m going to watch too. There’s nothing to be afraid of," Little Koby said gently, trying to reassure her.

Little Erick nodded beside him, puffing out his chest to show he wasn’t afraid either.

"I’ll watch also, and you can come with me if you’re still scared," Little Lucy offered softly.

She was afraid, too, but knowing she wasn’t alone made it easier.

"Then Little Mia will stay with Sis Lucy," she said, quickly scurrying over and sitting beside her—staying as far from the screen as possible.

After calming Little Mia down, the kids settled on the sofa and began watching the movie together.

Elena kept an eye on them while occasionally glancing outside.

The snowstorm was still raging, along with the wind howling relentlessly.

She sighed.

The rooftop would need clearing soon—if the snow kept piling up, it might collapse, and their unit would be the first to suffer.

Seeing his wife frowning as she stared out the window, Ethan quickly called out.

"Wife?"

"Husband, we have to clear the snow on the rooftop. It’s been a while, and I’m sure it’s piled up a lot," she replied, her voice calm but urgent.

Ethan was worried too.

It had been over a month since the extreme cold set in, and they hadn’t cleared the rooftop even once—they had completely forgotten about it with everything going on

"Then we’ll head up now. Just stay here with the kids," he said seriously, trying to stop her from coming along.

Elena rolled her eyes playfully. Her husband was once again trying to keep her back—worried about her and the baby getting cold.

"Fine, I’ll wait here. But let’s hold off for now. The snowstorm is still raging. You should only go when it eases up," she said, her voice filled with concern.

She feared the cold might be too much and froze them when they stepped outside.

"Alright, I’ll listen to you," he agreed, gently pulling her into a hug while quietly thinking about who else could go with him later.

They waited, hoping the snowstorm would weaken.

But instead, the wind howled louder, and the snow fell even harder.

Now, they feared that if the snowstorm continued, the snow would pile high enough to bury the building’s lower floor, making it uninhabitable.

Forcing the residents to move to higher floors.

In her past life, she had faced harsh snowstorms in the later years, but none as brutal as this one, especially since the disasters had only started.

She knew that even with thermal gear, anyone who went outside would freeze in seconds.

Still, despite the danger, they made a tough choice—to face the cold and clear the rooftop before the heavy snow caused it to collapse.

"With our upgraded [Inventory] skill range, we can quickly store the snow and ice," Ethan suggested, hoping to ease his wife’s worries.

"Alright. Just be careful," Elena replied, trusting his judgment.

Ethan then called Oslo, Daniel, and Andrei to help clear the snow from the rooftop.

They quickly suited up, wearing thermal base layers beneath their Arctic survival suits—specially made to withstand extreme cold and provide strong insulation.

Just before they could leave, Grandpa Caldwell spoke up, "What if the others exit from your side? That way, you can finish faster by working together."

Elena considered his suggestion. Truthfully, she wanted to go too.

With just a wave of her hand, she could store large amounts of snow and ice. But she held herself back.

They needed to become independent—not overly reliant on her always. Tasks had to be shared, and everyone had to adapt to the disaster.

After a moment, she nodded.

"Alright, I agree with Grandpa. Let them come. But listen—if you feel the cold starting to get through then enter Paradise immediately. Don’t do anything reckless. Understood?"

Hearing this, the others nodded and began suiting up while Ethan organized the teams.

Oslo and Lydia were assigned to the north side of the rooftop, while the David family—Andrei, Jessa, and Ramon—would take the west.

Daniel, Uncle Antony, and Mr. Benette were in charge of the east.

Finally, Ethan and Dr. Paige would handle the south side.

Afterward, the four team leads went up first, heading to their assigned spots.

The moment they stepped onto the rooftop, a blast of freezing air slammed into them.

The howling wind made the cold even more unbearable, while heavy snow continued to fall around them.

What stunned them the most was the sheer amount of snow—it had piled up like small towers.

"Good thing we checked. If we’d left it like this, the roof might’ve collapsed from the weight."

"Hmmmp."

"It’s freezing here... Anyone without proper gear would turn into ice in seconds."

"Alright, enough talk—let’s get moving," Ethan urged.

Without delay, they jumped into action and signaled their teams to use [Exit] now and start collecting the snow and ice.

As Elena had reminded them earlier, the gathered ice and snow should be saved for future use.

If their personal [Inventory] became full, they could transfer the excess to the Southern Inventory sector for storage.
