Chapter 189: Playing around

They then teleported to the Northern Blacksoil Sector Lab and contacted Aunt Liza to help arrange a DNA test between her and Little Erick.

Before long, the results were ready. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

As it turned out, the military equipment they had tucked away included a state-of-the-art testing device—sophisticated enough to deliver accurate results in less than an hour.

Elena then leaned in to check the results, her heart pounding with anticipation.

To her surprise, the percentage was more than enough to confirm they shared a strong familial connection— undeniable proof that they were truly related.

"It seems like we’re cousins," Elena sighed, though she had no idea which lineage they came from.

Tracing their family tree might have been easy in peaceful times. But with disaster looming, the chances of finding her mother’s relatives felt painfully slim.

Aunt Liza noticed the soft joy lingering on Elena’s face and couldn’t help but ask, "The question now is—who are your mother’s relatives?"

Seeing his wife lost in thought, Ethan gently stepped in to comfort her.

"Don’t worry. If it’s meant to be, you’ll meet them someday," he said with quiet reassurance.

"Well, let’s leave it to fate. I’m not in a hurry to find them," she replied with a faint smile.

If Ethan was right about her mother’s past, then there must have been a good reason why she left everything behind.

And before accepting any new relatives, Elena needed to be sure—were they friends or foes?

"Alright, let’s first tell Aunt Joana about the results," Ethan said softly, gently holding his wife’s hand.

He wanted to finish everything quickly so Elena could finally take a break.

She had been busy all day and needed some rest—for both herself and the baby.

Afterward, they returned to the hospital and shared the news with Aunt Joana, which filled her with quiet joy.

’At least now, my son had someone he could truly call a real relative.’

"Then, from your family’s side, do you know who Erick’s parents might be?" Aunt Joana asked nervously.

Elena shook her head, feeling helpless.

"To be honest, Little Erick and I are connected through my mother’s side. But my mother was an orphan, so I’m the only family she has left. I barely know anything about our roots, and with her gone, there’s no one left to ask."

Aunt Joana nodded in understanding, and then her heart sank upon hearing that Elena had lost both her parents.

"I’m sorry for your loss."

"It’s okay. It’s been a long time," Elena replied with a soft, bittersweet smile.

Soon after, Elena teleported to their home and saw the kids splashing happily in the pool.

They wore their cute swimwear, laughing and playing without a care.

"Little Mia, don’t be scared! I’ll count to three, then you jump!" Little Koby said, trying to encourage her to be brave.

"But Bwother Koby, what if you can’t catch me?" Mia said nervously, eyes wide.

Little Koby stretched out his small arms, ready to catch her, and said, "Dont worry, I’ll catch you. 1, 2, 3... Jump now—" But before he could finish, Angela quickly stopped him.

"No, don’t jump, Little Mia," she said firmly.

She looked at her little brother with a serious face.

"You’re too small, and you don’t know how to swim yet. Do you really want Little Mia to take that risk?"

"I know how to swim now. Brother Oslo taught me. Hmpp, you’re so mean, sister!" he pouted, crossing his arms.

"I’m just being honest," Angela retorted.

While the siblings bickered with each other, Little Lucy gently walked over to Little Mia’s side.

"Come here, Little Mia. Sister will help you. Let’s swim over here," she said softly.

Then, she carefully helped the three-year-old Little Mia into the shallow part of the pool, with Sera watching closely to make sure nothing bad happened to them.

Little Erick happily followed behind —it had been months since he’d had this much fun splashing in the water, completely enjoying the moment.

As Elena approached the poolside, the children’s cheerful voices echoed around, bringing a warm smile to her face.

She walked over and looked closely at Little Erick.

The boy was still thin and undernourished, so she planned to give him extra food, just as Dr. Paige had advised.

"Alright, you kids have been in the pool for quite a while. Let’s take a break and have some snacks."

The children quickly turned to her, calling out their greetings one by one.

"Sis Ewe, look at me! I can fwoat now!" Little Mia shouted proudly, her face full of excitement.

In truth, it was Sera who was gently holding her to keep her steady in the water.

"Wow, you’re really improving, Little Mia," Elena said with a soft laugh. "But let’s pause for a bit and enjoy some snacks over here."

With a wave of her hand, Elena brought out a lovely spread of snacks—cakes, sandwiches, fresh juice, and more—letting the kids pick whatever they liked.

"Okay, Sis Ewe!" Little Mia chirped, reaching out to Sera to help her out of the pool.

But before Sera could react, Elena had already teleported Little Mia straight to the table.

The little girl blinked in surprise, then giggled as she found herself already sitting at her spot.

One by one, the other kids followed, eagerly grabbing their favorite treats and munching away with happy faces.

Elena’s eyes softened when she noticed Little Erick hesitating.

He was only nibbling at his food, clearly holding back—afraid he might get scolded for eating too much.

Without a word, Elena quietly added more food to his plate.

"Little Erick, eat more, okay? Don’t hold back. Sister Elena has plenty to share, and I want you to eat until you’re full. Just try not to waste it, alright?"

"Thank you, Sister Elena," he said shyly, then took a bite of his cake, a small but genuine smile forming on his face.

He had missed this kind of tasty snack for so long that, after a few bites, Little Erick began eating more with growing excitement.

Elena smiled, relieved to see him finally enjoying his food without hesitation.

Once the kids finished their snacks, they excitedly jumped back into the pool, full of energy and laughter.

Ethan called out to remind them, "After an hour, you kids should stop swimming and take a rest. We still have daily exercise tomorrow, so don’t be late, alright?"

"Okay, Brother Ethan!" they shouted back in cheerful unison.

Laughter and splashing quickly filled the pool area again. Seeing everything in order, Ethan turned to his wife.

"Come on, you need to rest now," he said gently.

Soon, the door to their room closed, and both of them fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.

By the next morning, heavy snow began to fall again.

Before long, it turned into a full-blown snowstorm, forcing all the residents to stay inside their units.

No one dared step outside, feeling helpless against the sudden change in weather.
