Chapter 184: Reprimanded

Soon after, Elena decided to return to the unit.

She wanted to see the aftermath of the battle and check if the gang had hidden any supplies there.

It wouldn’t hurt to gather more resources—after all, if it’s free, why not?

They reappeared inside the unit and quickly ducked behind a wall, cautiously surveying the area outside.

The mutated cat was nowhere in sight, but the deep craters it had left behind showed just how furious it had been when its prey escaped.

"How did the mutated cat end up here?" Ethan asked, bewildered by its sudden appearance.

"Probably drawn by the spiritual energy I used," she replied.

"According to the residents, it kills people but doesn’t eat their bodies. The only explanation is that it needs a body filled with spiritual energy to feed on."

"Are you saying it’ll follow us?" he asked, concerned.

"It will. But according to the abbot, something is masking our aura—even our spiritual energy," she continued.

"So as long as we don’t use our skills or your ability, it won’t be able to track us?"

"Yes, but I’m not completely sure. We still need to look into it more."

Ethan nodded in understanding.

The thought of a mutated beast actively hunting them was unsettling.

With his wife pregnant, he knew he had to take more responsibility.

Aunt Liza’s words echoed in his mind—Elena needed to stay stress-free and comfortable for the baby’s healthy development.

"Let’s clean up the area and store anything useful."

They quickly got to work, gathering a stash of firearms and supplies the gang had left behind.

"Should we check out the Blackshear Hotel?" Elena asked, glancing out the window.

"We?" Ethan raised an eyebrow. "In this weather? And with you being pregnant? No way. Let’s forget about that for now, alright?"

His voice was gentle but firm. The hotel was far, and with no idea what awaited them there, the risk was too high.

Elena smiled faintly. "Alright, I’ll listen to you."

With the supplies secured, they then entered the space, leaving the wreckage behind.

Inside the space, Elena immediately noticed how quiet it was. The usual buzz of others waiting for them was gone.

Curious and a little worried, she closed her eyes and reached out with her senses.

She saw that most people had gathered at Paradise Hospital, while others were busy with tasks across different sectors.

With a wave of her hand, she teleported herself and Ethan to the front of Paradise Hospital.

Upon arrival, she saw Little Koby and Angela, their eyes red and puffy—they had clearly been crying.

"What happened?" Elena asked softly.

"Xander is wounded," Grandma Ford replied gently. "But don’t worry, it’s not life-threatening."

"Then why are these two crying?" Elena asked, looking down at the tearful children as if Xander were on the verge of dying.

"They probably saw their brother covered in blood," Grandma Ford said with a sigh. "It must have scared them."

"I see... Then I’ll leave them with you for now, Grandma Ford," Elena replied quietly.

"Of course, Elena. I’ll take good care of them," she assured her. "By the way, how are you and Ethan? And how’s the situation outside?"

"We’re fine, Grandma Ford. We already took care of it," Elena replied, her gaze shifting to Little Mia.

The girl sat beside Little Koby, gently patting his back and whispering softly to comfort him.

"Good. I’ll update the others later. For now, go get some rest," Grandma Ford said kindly. frёewebnoѵēl.com

Elena nodded and was about to teleport home when she heard Little Mia’s voice.

Elena paused, her curiosity piqued.

"Brother Koby, cheer up. When I grow up, I’ll be as stwong as Sis Ewe. I’ll definitely pwotect you," Little Mia said with determination.

Elena raised an eyebrow, thinking, ’Who’s protecting whom here?’

"Little Mia, thanks. I won’t cry anymore. Brother told me real men don’t cry," Koby replied with a shy smile.

Ethan nodded in approval, impressed by Little Koby’s brave mindset.

"But Sis Ewe said if you want to cwy, then don’t hold it back. Bottling up feelings can make things worse," Little Mia quickly added.

Elena smiled warmly, agreeing with Mia’s honest words.

The kids looked at each other, unsure who was right.

After a moment, both of them laughed as Little Lucy and Erick joined their conversation.

Watching the children chat in their sweet, innocent voices, Elena gently caressed her belly, feeling excitement for the day the baby would arrive.

Ethan wrapped his arms around her from behind, sharing the same hopeful thoughts.

However, Elena soon noticed that Angela still appeared worried, despite Grandma Ford’s reassurance that her brother would be fine.

She walked over and gently placed a hand on Angela’s shoulder.

"Don’t worry. Your brother will be okay," she said softly.

"Thank you, Sister Elena," Angela replied quietly, hoping her brother would be fine.

Ethan gently nudged his wife. "We should go now, or the kids might notice us and start pestering you."

Elena chuckled softly. Ever since the kids began visiting daily, her husband had become extra cautious.

Their time together had always been a bit compromised.

They then teleported to their new home, freshened up, and had an early dinner.

Afterward, Ethan gently tucked Elena into bed, letting her get the much-needed rest she deserved.

By the time Grandpa Caldwell and the others arrived to get a report on what had happened outside, Elena was already sound asleep.

Ethan filled them in, explaining the events in detail—including their encounter with the mutated beast—and warned them to remain alert for now.

The moment Grandpa Caldwell heard that Elena had come face-to-face with the mutated cat, his expression darkened with worry.

He began lecturing Ethan, his voice firm but laced with concern.

"With Elena pregnant, you should’ve—" He paused, stopping himself mid-sentence.

Ethan wasn’t reckless. He was a responsible man. There was no need to scold him further.

Instead, Grandpa Caldwell took a breath and softened his tone.

"You can’t take chances now—not with her or the baby."

Ethan didn’t argue. He knew his grandfather was right.

If anything had happened to Elena, he would’ve never forgiven himself. The thought alone made his chest tighten.

He stood there in silence, accepting the reprimand, letting his grandfather voice his fears.

He understood—they all cared deeply for Elena, just as he did.

When the conversation finally ended, the group gave him a few words of encouragement, urging him to rest.

Then, one by one, they quietly took their leave, the concern still heavy in the air.

But instead of heading back to the bedroom, Ethan made his way to the training ground.

With clenched fists and a focused gaze, he began to train again—harder this time.
