America 1919-Chapter 909 - 310, Proactive Response_3
Donnie did not reject this idea. Although Gilbert Thomas was not Donnie’s preferred representative in the United Kingdom, he could certainly be a solid partner and ally.
After entering the United Kingdom, Donnie’s business could also leverage some of Gilbert Thomas’s influence.
"The negotiations are going smoothly; we’re about to secure the deal!"
When talking about this matter, Gilbert Thomas had a smile on his face. To him, acquiring the steel factory was a monumental event, one that he believed would change his destiny—because with this acquisition, he would become a true businessman!
Donnie asked, "Did you use any special methods?"
Gilbert Thomas let out an awkward chuckle. "There are always people unwilling to follow our pace!"
Donnie nodded. He didn’t particularly care about how Gilbert Thomas conducted himself; what Donnie wanted was for Gilbert Thomas to become an influential figure in the United Kingdom, rather than to fuss over the methods Gilbert Thomas used to achieve that status.
"I think you need to move quicker; it’s possible that in a few days, you may face some problems!"
Donnie cautioned Gilbert Thomas.
Gilbert Thomas showed a puzzled expression. "What problems? Why am I unaware?"
Donnie, although he hadn’t met with the Rothschild family in recent days, was well aware that the two sides were locked in a game of strategy.
In a game, naturally, moves are exchanged endlessly!
Previously, Donnie had instructed Steve Cotting to inform United States Logistics to bolster manpower and equipment—it was a preparatory measure.
Now, Donnie was briefing Gilbert Thomas as another form of preparation.
In fact, Donnie’s most important business in the United Kingdom revolved around his collaboration with Gilbert Thomas. Gilbert Thomas was one of Donnie’s key contractors for acquiring liquor in Europe.
Those in the United States feared Donnie’s Bootlegging Empire and wouldn’t go directly against him on this matter. However, the Rothschild family had no such reservation.
Now, the Rothschilds sought to make Donnie yield, and their target would undoubtedly be his business. In the United Kingdom, the most vulnerable points were Donnie’s liquor transportation and Gilbert Thomas.
Donnie shared his concerns with Gilbert Thomas.
After listening, Gilbert Thomas was stunned. To him, the Rothschild family was an unattainable entity that stood high above him.
And now, Donnie was actually engaging with the Rothschild family. How could Gilbert Thomas not be shocked?
"What on earth have you done to provoke the Rothschild family into taking action against you?"
Donnie didn’t disclose the specifics of his dealings with the Rothschild family.
He waved dismissively, saying, "You don’t need to concern yourself with that. I just want to warn you that they might make a move on this matter—or perhaps they’ll approach you to propose collaboration!"
Gilbert Thomas asked, "Collaboration?"
Immediately, Gilbert Thomas understood Donnie’s meaning. "You’re saying they want me to be a mole?"
Donnie nodded. "It’s highly possible!"
At this, Donnie smiled and remarked, "Gilbert, this could be a rare opportunity for you! If you can collaborate with the Rothschild family, your business in the United Kingdom will undoubtedly thrive. I imagine that by then, when outsiders encounter you, they will surely address you as Businessman Gilbert Thomas!"
"Hmph!" Gilbert Thomas snorted coldly. "Don’t flatter me intentionally—I know well that my current status is only thanks to your support. Besides, the Rothschild family and I don’t share any sort of battlefield camaraderie. Worst case, I’ll head to the United States to join you!"
Donnie was very pleased with Gilbert Thomas’s response but didn’t fully trust it.
"Dear Thomas, you misunderstood my intent!" Donnie said with a smile. "If the Rothschild family truly contacts you, I hope you will accept their offer!"
Gilbert Thomas’s thoughts raced as he grasped Donnie’s intention. "You want me to act as a double-agent, don’t you?"
Donnie waved his hand. "Don’t use such harsh language. I merely don’t want you to run into trouble because of this situation. My dealings with the Rothschild family are somewhat intricate—we are competitors right now, but I believe soon we may become partners. Your concerns aren’t as critical; I just want to know what methods the Rothschild family plans to use against me."
Donnie wasn’t about to let Gilbert Thomas bear the costs alone, even though the latter had said he wouldn’t hesitate to flee to the United States if he couldn’t establish himself in the United Kingdom.
That said, Donnie believed that if given the chance, Gilbert Thomas wouldn’t willingly leave the United Kingdom. After all, in the United Kingdom, he was a gang leader and a company chairman.
In contrast, if he moved to the United States, Gilbert Thomas would merely be one of Donnie’s subordinates. Such a disparity wasn’t something everyone could easily accept.
So Donnie assured Gilbert Thomas that even if he became Donnie’s top undercover operative, it wouldn’t hinder his future development in the United Kingdom.
Sure enough, after hearing Donnie’s explanation, Gilbert Thomas became more enthusiastic.
Although this level of trust seemed risky, Gilbert Thomas ultimately decided to put faith in Donnie.
"Now that you’ve put it this way, I have no objections!"
At this, Gilbert Thomas grew excited as well. "To be honest, I never imagined I’d someday have dealings with the Rothschild family!"
Donnie chuckled. "Relax—if you manage your operations well, it won’t be long before you become someone many British businessmen look up to."
Gilbert Thomas asked wistfully, "Will I really?"
"You will!"
