Jun recovers and suddenly asks,

"What did you and Ace talk about? I just heard him say you don’t have a mate and that he will be presenting you to the Moon Goddess." He changes the topic immediately. freёwebnoѵel.com

"Did he?!" Rey chuckles. "He didn’t talk to me about anything of the sort. He must be using me to get Alpha to speak up. Though I don’t really have a mate, but I feel his presence around here. All I gotta do is find them. It feels like he is just around the corner or just some meters away."

Once again, Jun is left speechless.

He keeps his gaze on Rey, that odd warmth settling in his chest again. He wants to ignore it, but the feeling persists, nagging at him in a way that makes him restless.

"So then, if you can feel your mate around," Jun points out, tilting his head, "why haven’t you found her yet?"

Rey smirks, folding his arms as he leans against the wall. "Who says it’s a she? Lately, the Moon Goddess has been surprisingly mating same-gender pairs, and I have a feeling that she gave me a male, of which... I’m so happy about. And about finding him_ maybe I’m just waiting for him to notice me first."

Jun scoffs, shifting uncomfortably. "What kind of logic is that?"

Rey shrugs, watching Jun’s reactions closely. "Not all bonds start with immediate recognition. Some need time... or a little push. Or because it’s one’s first time experiencing the mate heat, they don’t know how it feels when they are around their mates. Like, yes, they can feel the need, the pull, but they don’t know that’s the feeling of a mate around."

Jun frowns at him, feeling the heat in his body spike again. His wolf stirs, restless, but he still doesn’t register the obvious.

What Rey is saying makes him ask himself if Rey is speaking those words deliberately and if he knows more than he’s letting on.

"So, what about you? I heard Alpha gave you a bite to save you. I’m sorry, Jun, for whatever happened to you and your dad. I don’t mean to bring up that memory, but I just want to tell you, if you really ever need anything at all, or someone to talk to, I would be glad to." Rey says, and for once, his face is dead serious. The concern in his eyes makes Jun’s heart skip a beat.

’What is it with this Rey guy!?’ he asks himself, feeling something he cannot name.

"It’s okay. I’m actually fine now, but thank you," Jun answers.

Rey, knowing that he might have evoked sorrowful emotions in Jun, changes the topic, going back to what he was aiming for earlier. "So, just curious, since it’s mating season, do you feel anything? I mean, like a pull or a need for someone?"

"Not really," Jun lies.

"You are lying," Rey says firmly, a smirk on his face again.

"If you know, then why are you asking me?!" Jun asks.

"Because I wanted to hear it from you."

"Ugh, whatever. You are impossible. I’m leaving," Jun says, walking away, though reluctantly, because for some reason, standing there with Rey, talking about nothing important, makes him feel like it’s the most enjoyable thing he has ever done in his life.

Rey watches him with quiet amusement, but beneath the teasing, there’s something else_ something he has been fighting with, masking it carefully.

He smiles broadly before chuckling to himself, even finding himself tapping the wall playfully.

He has waited for this moment for a long time. I mean, what feels better than being mated with the person you have always desired?!

But he won’t rush it anyway.

After all, the best part of the game is watching Jun realize the truth on his own.

"On second thoug..." Rey is startled to hear Jun’s voice, who stops when he sees what Rey has been doing.

"Geez, are you a maniac or something?!" Jun asks, suppressing laughter.

"Kind of," Rey doesn’t even argue because he knows sometimes he does and says things only a maniac would. "You were saying... on second thought, what?"

"Since you know what’s happening between Kieran and Ace... why don’t you help me put those hard heads together? Actually, all I want is for Kieran to admit that he has feelings for Ace. I want him to accept that fact."

"Because of you, I’ll do it. I’ll do whatever you tell me to, so tell me, what do you want me to do?"

Jun stares at him blankly before saying, "I’ll talk to Ace. I want you to be around him so much that Kieran can’t take it anymore."

"Why are you trying so hard?"

"Because they have to be together! You know, if one of them makes the mistake of presenting someone else to the Moon Goddess, and she happens to solidify that bond, that means that’s the end of Kieran and Ace! And I’m not willing to let that happen," Jun explains, remembering that those two owe him his sacrifice.

"One thing I’m sure of is that Kieran is not going to present anyone, trust me. So I don’t know about Ace," Rey explains. He has been around Kieran and has noticed his unspoken feelings.

Also, after so many beautiful, powerful women have been brought to him, and him never choosing even one or showing any interest in them, it shows how much Ace has consumed his feelings.

"Ace will do it. I know him, and he might do it mainly because he is still so mad at Kieran," Jun confirms.

"Then maybe we can just get Alpha to go after him."

"That’s precisely what this is all about," Jun answers.

"What am I getting after helping you?" Rey asks, smirking.

"Forget it..." Jun turns around, walking away, but Rey pulls him back.

The contact of their skin on each other’s drives unbearable heat through their bodies.

Rey takes a sharp breath as his teasing nature is replaced with need, desire and longing for Jun.

Jun, on the other hand, loses himself. He walks closer to Rey, unconscious, his hand itchily landing softly on Rey’s hard chest. His head rises involuntarily as he tries to connect their lips, but a loud thud of something snaps him out of his daze.

He looks around as if trying to register where he is and what he has been doing.

Rey chuckles, brushing it off. "I was kidding about what I get from helping. Are you that hot-tempered?"

Jun doesn’t answer as he walks away, a little faster as if he wants to hide from Rey, maybe because he feels embarrassed by his actions.

He bumps into Ace in the hallway.

"Thank heavens! Finally! I found you! Jun, what’s your dea..." Ace stops suddenly when he sees Jun’s tomato-red face. "Wait?! Is that blushing, or is something wrong with you?" He asks, raising Jun’s face.

At a distance, Rey watches. His wolf groans at the action, at the sight of Ace touching its mate like that.

Jun brushes it off, not wanting to reveal his embarrassing actions just a minute ago. "I think the mating thing is hitting me really hard. Oh, by the way, I found a solution. Look, Ace, I know you don’t wanna be with anyone if not Kier..."

"Don’t! Don’t start again , Jun! I’ve told you, there can never be anything between Kieran and me! And even if he really feels something... I still don’t wanna be with him because he is selfish, inconsiderate, and heartless, so no! Just stop it! And if you still don’t wanna leave, I’m leaving!" Ace snaps.

"Why are you pretending? You think I didn’t hear you lying to Kieran about Rey? That Rey accepted to be your mate? Tell me, Ace, why did you lie to him? Huh? Wasn’t it to get him jealous and maybe make him speak up?!" Jun insists.

"Yes, you were right. I was hoping for once he would really say something, but he didn’t, and now I’m so done with him!"

Ace says storming out,

Outside a guard rushes to him with yet another letter.

"Noble Ace, it’s yours," he says, bowing a little.

Ace picks it up, and he doesn’t even doubt where it’s coming from. He has so many unanswered letters from Marsel and Elira.

This time, Ace doesn’t hesitate. He immediately makes his way to their home.

The last time he left, he was so mad, and he now thinks they might believe he is still angry with them for letting Kieran in.

Meanwhile, Jun storms into Kieran’s room. "Hello there, Mr. Hard-Headed. You know Kieran... I’ve been trying so hard for you, and I’m tired too, so do whatever suits you. And, oh, by the way, just so you know, Ace is going to find someone, and he’s not joking about it right now! So sit there, keep trying as hard as you can to stop your feelings for him, which won’t happen. And once he finds someone, spend sleepless nights regretting it for the rest of your life!
