Alpha's mate is a male?!?-Chapter 176: Took his bullet
Chapter 176: Took his bullet
Kieran hesitates before answering the knock on his office door.
"Sir, we got them. They’re already here," a man’s voice comes through the closed door.
Kieran moves toward the door and opens it. "That was fast. Great work."
"Thank you, sir. It was easy because we caught them together, in action. They seemed to be planning something in the lab," the man says.
Ace steps out and stands at the door. "How many of them did you get?" he asks.
"Mrs. Crawford and four men," the man replies.
"Four men? They were supposed to be five," Ace says, raising a brow.
"The other one must have gone somewhere, but don’t worry, we’ll find him," Kieran says, facing Ace. He turns around only to find the detective watching them with a confused expression.
That’s when Kieran realizes he had forgotten himself, he was speaking to Ace too softly, as if they had a deep connection, as if they had known each other for a long time.
"Uh...!" He clears his throat. "We can now inform the public about this," he says.
"Yes, sir. I’ll make sure they’re here soon," the man says before leaving.
Kieran turns to Ace, and they nod at each other before heading toward the large room where the detectives work. The space is filled with desks and people moving around.
Rey and Jun are still waiting for them in the room full of detectives. Kieran walks up to them.
"You guys should check things out at the pack house. At least one of us has to be there, but it’s fine, you can go together. We’ll handle everything here and update you. You should do the same if anything comes up," Kieran says in a low voice, meant only for them.
"Sure," Rey says, standing up.
Jun stands as well, facing Ace and Kieran. "Okay. You guys take care. Just... above all, stay safe," he says.
"You too," both Kieran and Ace respond at the same time, their voices perfectly synchronized, like programmed robots.
Jun’s eyes linger on them, especially on Ace, before he turns to Rey. "Let’s go."
And just like that, they leave.
Kieran turns to the detectives. "Since Mr. Carter is the one who obtained the information about Mrs. Crawford, I believe he should be part of this case. He’ll be working with us and will play a key role."
No one seems to have a problem with that.
"We’ll start the interrogation. When the press arrives, make sure to provide them with clear details about our discoveries. If I’m needed, don’t hesitate to call me," he instructs.
With that, he turns to Ace, and they nod again before heading toward the interrogation room.
As they walk through the hallways, Kieran exhales before pushing the door open.
Inside, Adele sits with her hands cuffed. The moment she sees Ace behind Kieran, she instantly stands up, tension gripping her.
Fear flashes across her face, but she forces it away.
"Wh... what is he doing here?! He... is... " She tries to keep her voice steady and fluent, but she fails.
"Keep your mouth shut, Mrs. Crawford. You should be ashamed of yourself for committing such atrocities against your fellow humans. Hiding your vile deeds behind the image of a government figure! How could you be so heartless- experimenting on your own kind, using them as test subjects for your research, killing some, and disposing of their bodies like mere trash?!" Kieran snaps, his voice laced with intense anger and hatred.
Adele looks at him, but her attention keeps drifting toward Ace. Still, she forces herself to respond to Kieran’s accusations.
"You’ve listed all these things, but why haven’t you mentioned the false accusations they forced on me?! Why haven’t you mentioned my daughter, Blake?!" she snaps. "I didn’t do anything to my daughter! I didn’t turn her into that creature! I did not experiment on her! She was turned to that by some creatures that really exist, and I’m telling you- this young man beside you... is one of them! He is not human! He is..." Adele screams.
"Oh, save your breath!" Kieran moves closer. "We already know, Adele. We know you didn’t turn your daughter into that creature. She was impregnated by a werewolf, yes... and that pregnancy changed her into one of us. But don’t worry, she’s safe with us. We are not as inhuman as you, even if we are not completely human ourselves," Kieran explains with a smirk.
"S... so... you... are one of th... them?!" she stammers, shock washing over her.
"Yes," Kieran confirms. But before he can say anything else, he hears the unmistakable crackling of something, sparks.
He turns to Ace and realizes that, all this time, Ace has been struggling to keep his emotions under control. The moment he laid eyes on Adele, it had all begun.
Before Kieran can reach him, flames break free from his chest, although, not so large.
"You killed my parents!" Ace roars, moving toward Adele.
Adele panics. Fear consumes her, and she is on the verge of screaming.
"I will never forgive you for that, and I’m making you pay right now!" Ace yells.
The detectives outside hear the commotion and immediately understand that something is wrong. They hear Ace’s voice accusing Adele of killing his parents.
But they assume he means she killed them through her experiments. They have no idea about the deeper meaning behind his words.
Kieran holds Ace back. "Baby, babe, look at me, hey calm down. You’ll draw too much attention. We will make her pay for what she did, but we still have a plan to execute. We are not safe yet. I promise you, we will seek justice," Kieran pleads, trying his best to calm him.
Ace’s breathing slows. The fire retracts into his chest, though his breathing remains heavy.
Finally, he regains control.
Adele has nothing to say. She can’t even think straight. Everything she has seen and heard has thrown her into utter confusion and fear.
Kieran turns back to her. "So, do you admit that you ran an illegal experimental lab, Adele?" His voice is dangerously low. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Adele remains silent. But when she sees the anger flicker in Kieran’s eyes, his irises turning red, she panics. "Yes! Yes, I did," she confesses.
"And you will also admit that you experimented on your daughter, and that your failed experiment led to her transformation!" Kieran demands.
"I... I did no... not..."
Kieran slams his palm on the table, making Adele jolt. "Do not test my patience, Adele! Do you want to see my true self?!"
"No!"
"Then do as I say!"
"Yes."
"Perfect! Because even if you try to expose us now, no one will believe you. The world has already seen what you’ve done, and they believe you experimented on your daughter! So, we are going out there, and you will publicly admit to it. Is that clear?" Kieran warns, struggling to keep his emotions in check.
"Yes..."
Kieran turns to the door.
"Officers," he calls out.
The door opens instantly, and two policemen step in, their faces set like stone.
"Take her! And follow me with her," he commands.
The officers obey without hesitation, escorting Adele through the hallways until they step outside.
The moment they do, the outside world erupts into chaos.
Everywhere, it’s all about Adele.
The press rushes forward, cameras flashing.
"Mrs. Crawford, is it true that you ran an illegal experimental lab?!"
"Are you responsible for the disappearances of people?!"
"Is it true that you experimented on your own daughter?!"
The questions keep coming, relentless.
Some people hurl insults at her.
Kieran raises a hand, calling for silence. Once the noise dies down, he gestures for the officers to bring Adele to the microphones.
After a silence that seemed like eternity, she speaks, "I... I don’t... have words that express my sincere apolog..."
Before she can finish an apology, the crowd erupts in curses.
"Just say the one thing I want you to say to them!" Kieran mutters beside her, his voice low and sharp.
"Y... yes, I ran an illegal experimental lab... and I..."
That’s all it takes. No one wants to listen to her anymore because now they believe everything is true.
Suddenly, through the chaos, a man’s voice cuts through, amplified by a microphone he just snatched from a news anchor. His voice is filled with pain.
"Adele!" He calls her name with raw emotion, catching everyone’s attention.
The crowd turns. It’s Paul, the man who resigned the DCI position and started working with Adele to catch the werewolves.
He was among the men caught with her, the only one who had been missing- until now.
Even if he started working with Adele, he didn’t know she was a scientist, an illegal one.
"How dare you do that to your fellow humans?!" Paul yells, his rage palpable. "I just checked the list, and my niece is among the kids who disappeared! Who you did your evil deeds on! I will never forgive you for that! And neither will I forgive the wolves that I know exist!"
His voice shakes with fury as he suddenly points a trembling finger toward Ace.
"That young man right there is not human!"
Before anyone can fully grasp what he’s talking about, gunshots ring out.
One bullet is aimed at Adele.
The other at Ace.
Ace sees it coming. He saw it really coming, but the bullet never reached him.
Only to realize Kieran... Kieran got in the way.
And he’s the one who got shot.
Worse-- with a silver bullet.
