After I Became a Divine Monarch, the Sect Wants Me to Marry In-Chapter 165: Look for the Cause Within Yourself
Chapter 165: Chapter 165: Look for the Cause Within Yourself
"Childish."
Gu An shook his head and sighed.
*Messing with someone’s house, that was something he had done as a kid.*
*To him now, it just didn’t matter anymore.*
Most people resented him these days and looked at him with hostility.
The people up top didn’t want things to go easy for him, either.
*But probably no one had the guts to come at him openly yet.*
*He had no clue how that woman managed it, at least that elder wouldn’t dare make a move for three years.*
*So, for now, he just needed to be careful.*
*Raise his cultivation as fast as possible in these three years—who knows, maybe the elder would grow a conscience by then?*
*As for those weaker than him,*
*all the better.*
*He didn’t worry about those people trying to screw him over; what bothered him was them being nice to him.*
After throwing together a simple hut for himself, Gu An went to look for Noodles.
The pond got hit too, but Noodles was excellent at hiding.
He wouldn’t be affected.
He let Noodles try the things Chu Meng had left, and saw Noodles didn’t reject any of it.
*Looked like there probably wasn’t any poison.*
Once the room was more or less built, Gu An sat down to cultivate.
Now that everyone knew he had reached Golden Core,
if anyone made a move, it’d probably be other strong cultivators like him.
To be safe, he needed to raise his cultivation first.
*The only real safety is when your strength’s at a level nobody saw coming.*
*Should he keep being this knife for others to wield...?*
*At the very least, whoever held the knife shouldn’t know just how sharp it really was.*
*To get free, though, he’d have to solve the poison in his body.*
*Doing things for others was fine, but at least his own life and death had to stay in his own hands.*
The next day.
The start of July.
Gu An collected his resources.
Thirty Spirit Stones and a jar of Elixir Pills.
Only thirty Spirit Stones—pretty stingy.
But the pills were actually worth quite a bit.
Back at his place, Gu An decided to report for duty the day after next.
They had given him three days to start officially.
Only, as soon as he got back, he found the little cabin he’d just built was rubble again.
Staring at the wreckage, Gu An let out a sigh, then turned and headed for the Deacon Hall.
Routine matters at Qianchen Peak were handled by the Deacon Hall.
Many people looked over as Gu An arrived.
Gu An had no idea who to ask, so he went up to the man with the highest cultivation.
"Senior brother." Gu An greeted him with the formal salute.
The other man sat at a table and chairs, looking at Gu An a little puzzled, "What do you want?"
Gu An placed a small box on the man’s table and said, "My residence was destroyed."
"Destroyed?" The man glanced at the box, pushed it back, and said casually, "Just rebuild it, that’s all."
"I rebuilt it, and it got destroyed again." Gu An slid another box over.
The man looked at the box, then asked, "Who did it?"
"Don’t know." Gu An shook his head.
"Then build it again and see. If it gets trashed again, come back to me." The man pushed the box back again as he spoke.
Watching this, Gu An figured the guy was stonewalling him, so he took the box back and said,
"If it happens again, what are you going to do about it, senior brother?"
"Well obviously, I’ll see what you’ve been up to lately. Otherwise, why would someone target your place and not anyone else’s?
Wouldn’t you say so? Everything has a reason, right?" The man said with a smile.
Gu An stared at him.
Golden Core Early Stage. Looked about forty.
*He looked younger than Gu An, but on that front, who could say for sure?*
*And clearly, this man didn’t mind Gu An being in trouble.*
"You don’t have to look at me like that. We don’t know who did it either, have to go by the rules.
Just keep an eye out. If it really gets destroyed again, come back tomorrow." The man said calmly, meeting Gu An’s gaze.
Gu An nodded.
Finally, he turned and left.
After searching around, Gu An found a pretty nice courtyard, formed Sea Suppressing Fist, then blasted out a punch.
Boom!
With a huge crash, the other man’s house turned into rubble.
With that done, Gu An turned and walked away.
The next day.
Gu An headed for the Deacon Hall again.
Same senior brother as before.
The moment he saw Gu An, the previously calm senior brother’s eyes filled with rage.
"Was that you?" he said in a low voice.
The others looked over as well.
Gu An feigned confusion, "What are you talking about, senior brother?"
"You destroyed my house, didn’t you?" the man snapped.
"That’s slander, senior brother. Anyway, since your house got trashed, maybe you should think about what you’ve done lately.
Why did everyone else’s houses make it through fine, and yet yours is the one in ruins? Sometimes, you have to look for the reason in yourself." Gu An said politely.
The man stood there stunned—wasn’t that exactly what he’d said the day before?
"You..." The man was silent a bit, then gritted his teeth and said,
"Just go build a new place, or pick a new one. We’ll send someone to keep watch—nobody’s going to mess with it now."
Gu An bowed, "Thank you, senior brother."
This time, he handed over two boxes.
The man didn’t refuse this time.
Consider it some compensation.
After leaving, Gu An felt a sort of relief.
The housing issue was settled.
Annoying as it had been, and it cost him some Spirit Stones,
at least he’d have some peace for a while now.
Tomorrow, he’d take up his post at the Outer Peak.
Outer Peak was still inside the Sect’s territory, one of the mountains closest to the Outer Sect.
It was where trades with other Sects happened.
The main deals were in spirit wood and construction work.
They had logging forests out there too.
But Gu An had no idea just what kind of logging forest it was.
*Didn’t matter—as long as he could do logging, fine.*
The pressure from Qianchen Peak would make most things difficult in the future.
*He might even get ambushed one day.*
*But life still had to go on.*
*All he could do was take it one day at a time. Besides, it was best if his cultivation didn’t improve—let those people rest easy.*
*If he advanced, he’d only make them nervous.*
*A rival who never breaks through is the best kind of rival.*
Evening.
Yang Qi slipped over to find him.
Said he’d heard something from a hometown acquaintance—that for now, none of the Peaks would do anything openly.
But anybody who got close or friendly with Gu An would be targeted.
Might even face danger.
He also said his own acquaintance had warned him to stay away.
Gu An was surprised it could involve the people close to him.
*Thankfully, he didn’t really have any such people these days.*
*Yang Qi was close, sure, but he had a Law Enforcement Hall friend. Should be safe enough.*
Yu Tu didn’t mix with him much, either.
*Should be fine.*
Yang Qi said if he heard anything else, he’d sneak over with news. Then he left.
*Gu An thought the guy was playing with fire—asking for trouble.*
But his own situation made him think of Hua Jiyang.
*Hua Jiyang had been in a similar spot before—trouble for anyone who got close.*
*Helping him was even worse.*
"Wonder how Hua Jiyang’s doing now."
Gu An could only sigh as he kept rebuilding his hut.
He cleaned up the big old tree, making it part of his courtyard’s landscaping. Then he started framing out the walls.
*Had to fix it up little by little, no other way.*
In the middle of the night, he suddenly heard the wah-leh wah-leh sound.
He turned to look. Noodles was dragging a paperman his way.
"You bringing papermen again?"
Noodles was always bringing back random things—papermen included.
Papermen almost always meant Hua Jiyang.
*That made him extremely curious, with a touch of anticipation.*
*Wanted to see what Hua Jiyang would send this time.*
*Of course, his Spirit Stones probably weren’t long for this world.*
