Chapter 126: Chapter 126 Deciding to Move

As the dishes were served one by one, Jiang Lingxu and Xu Lei had a bit of a ravenous demeanor.

But as soon as Jiang Lingxi and Shen Yunqing started to eat, the two of them silently slowed down their pace.

Otherwise, they always felt like they were reincarnated from starving ghosts.

In the end, this meal took almost two hours. Xu Lei forced himself to finish the last bowl of rice before putting down his chopsticks.

Looking at the plates on the table that were clean as a whistle, he nodded with satisfaction.

One of his life principles: Even if it kills you, never waste!

After leaving the restaurant, Xu Ling’an said goodbye.

Jiang Lingxi watched her and Xu Lei get into a taxi, then looked at the road leading to the nearby neighborhood from the car, "Shall we consider moving?"

A hint of interest flashed across Jiang Wenhu’s face, and she was about to speak when Jiang Runcheng beat her to it.

"Why move? We’re living well here."

"But now that Lingxu is back..."

The area they currently lived in was an old community, mostly populated by retirees. Young people preferred new developments and apartments with better facilities and transportation.

Actually, living in an old community wasn’t bad either. Though a bit rundown, the slower pace of life was quite comfortable. But now there was one thing she was most worried about.

Some retirees had too much time on their hands and loved to gossip.

The incident three years ago was initially confined to their building, but it was spread by a few retired old ladies in the vicinity, and soon almost the whole neighborhood knew they had a child who went to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Now that Lingxu was out, if those old ladies saw him, it would definitely become a topic of conversation again.

She had gotten used to it, but she was afraid the child wouldn’t be able to take it.

Her daughter suddenly brought this up, probably for the same reason.

Rumors were frightening; sometimes the cuts from words hurt more than real knives.

"Mom," Jiang Lingxu suddenly spoke, "don’t worry, I’m fine."

To be precise, he was mentally prepared.

The pointing fingers and discussions about him injuring someone and his time in the Juvenile Detention Center would be unavoidable whenever he went out. As long as he pretended not to hear them or not to care if he did, it would be fine.

It was actually Jiang Runcheng, who found moving troublesome, who changed his mind this time.

Seeing his son shedding his impulsiveness and growing more resilient, already faintly resembling a shadow of his younger self, Jiang Runcheng said solemnly, "Alright, let’s move. I’ve had enough of this place anyway, with the constant power and water outages. Now that we’re moving, let’s find a better neighborhood."

Seeing Jiang Wenhu about to speak, he took out his phone and handed it over, "When I was drinking with Old Liu before, he got me into a small project. The dividends aren’t much, but it should be enough to rent a nicer place." Then he turned to look at the son-in-law sitting in the row behind them, "Yunqing, over the past few years, I’ve been too laid-back, and I’m not familiar with the current rental market. Your aunt and brother don’t have connections either. I’ll have to trouble you with the matter of finding a place."

"No need for formalities, Uncle," Shen Yunqing nodded and agreed, "I’ll take care of it, and you can start packing tonight, or I can have someone come over to help tomorrow."

Jiang Lingxi silently retracted the message she had sent to Tong Yue asking her to help find a place and glanced sideways.

Was this person fully immersing himself in the role of the Jiang family son-in-law?

Seeing her husband’s bank balance displayed on the phone, Jiang Wenhu also sighed in relief.

She nodded continuously, "Oh, good, great. There’s no rush. We don’t need help; there isn’t much stuff, we can manage on our own."

The business vehicle stopped under the old apartment building, attracting the attention of quite a few residents nearby.

Jiang Wenhu intended to keep a low profile, but they were stopped before they even entered the building.

"Wenhui, do you have relatives visiting? Oh my, this young man looks familiar. Is this Lingxu? Has Lingxu been released from the juvenile center?"

Jiang Wenhu wanted to rush up and shut the person’s mouth.

Did she have to speak so loudly for everyone to hear?

Jiang Lingxu still remembered the plump auntie approaching them, "It’s me, Aunt Xu."

"Lingxu, more polite than before, it seems the juvenile center is a better educator."

Just as the veins on Jiang Wenhu’s temple were about to pop, Jiang Lingxi and Shen Yunqing got out of the car one after the other.

"Why aren’t you going in?"

Aunt Xu turned upon hearing the voice and couldn’t help opening her mouth wide.

Facing Jiang Lingxi’s gaze, she shrank away, speechless before her.

"This is..."

"My daughter and son-in-law," Jiang Wenhu straightened her back and replied, "We’ve been busy for a while and need to rest now, talk later, Sister Xu."

Aunt Xu had no choice but to suppress her urge to speak, stiffly nodded, "Sure, sure."

Once in the slightly dim stairway, Jiang Lingxi used her phone’s camera as a light and casually warned as she climbed the stairs, "Watch your step."

Shen Yunqing, walking behind her, smiled and replied with an "Mm."

Jiang Lingxi pursed her lips: It was the dim stairway, not because she was afraid this renowned young master Shen might fall flat!

As soon as Jiang Wenhu opened the door, she turned on the living room lights, "Lingxu, come in quickly."

Jiang Lingxu paused at the doorstep, looking at the familiar yet unfamiliar narrow living room.

Years ago, in this very living room, when the debt collectors came in and heard there was no money, they wantonly smashed things, speaking obscenely, until he couldn’t take it, and in anger, he drew a knife.

Then everything descended into chaos, screams, shouting, and the sound of things breaking all around him, like thousands of bees buzzing in his head, until the handcuffs were clasped on his wrists, and he regained normal hearing.

From that point, he was taken out of this house, and three years have passed until his return.

It seemed the living room had been specially cleaned. Though narrow, it was tidy with a faint scent of air freshener. Strangely, he couldn’t seem to move.

Not until he felt a hand on his shoulder, followed by a gentle push, "Why’re you blocking the door? I’m still outside."

Jiang Lingxu stumbled inside, straightened up, and pulled his neck back in.

Understanding what he had been so afraid of earlier, he realized he feared stepping back into a nightmare.

But the push from his sister dismissed that illusion as if crossing over a threshold.

The nightmare was over!

The three-seater sofa in the living room wasn’t enough, so Jiang Lingxu dragged two chairs in from the small dining area.

Once everyone was seated, they resumed discussing the move they had started in the car.

Shen Yunqing took a sip from the bottle of mineral water Jiang Lingxi handed him, then capped it and held it in his hand, "Do Uncle, Aunt, and Lingxu have a preferred area in mind?"

"Southern District," replied Jiang Lingxi. "I heard from my assistant that Southern District’s Nancheng Third High School is very good. If Lingxu returns to school, he can try getting into that one."

Jiang Lingxu met his sister’s authoritative gaze, shifted awkwardly, and dared not speak: He hadn’t thought that far ahead, and now they’ve already picked out a school for him!

"Oh, An’an is also at that school."

Jiang Lingxu: Giving it a try isn’t out of the question; who knows, it might just work out!
