Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Grandpa Morgan’s Simple and Crude Way of Scolding People
Chloe clearly heard that whenever Lucas spoke to Lily, his voice would drop, infinitely gentle.
It made her heart ache.
Her hand clutched tightly onto Matthew’s shirt sleeve, not caring even if she wrinkled it.
"Chloe, are you okay?" Lily asked with concern, seeing that Chloe hadn’t reacted.
Chloe didn’t want to raise her head because it would let Lily see her in her disheveled state, and... her face full of tears.
She didn’t want to embarrass herself.
But...
She couldn’t just keep hiding like this, making Matthew’s shirt wrinkled and wet. He must be very angry.
Chloe felt utterly pitiable.
Offending Matthew on one side, and on the other, facing the hypocritical Lily and Lucas.
Every time she saw the two of them together, it reminded Chloe.
That night, she was upstairs, in the dark, with someone she didn’t even know.
And downstairs, it was the entanglement between Lucas and Lily.
Every time she faced them, Chloe thought of that scene, and her heart ached to death with an overwhelming sense of irony.
Even she wanted to laugh at her own foolishness.
But with the current situation, she couldn’t keep hiding forever.
Chloe wasn’t the kind of person who would avoid problems and not dare to face her adversaries.
Taking a deep breath, Chloe restrained her emotions, struggled slightly, and got up from Matthew’s embrace as if she were making a break for it.
But...
Chloe had just lifted her head for a second when it was pressed back down by Matthew’s large hand.
Chloe was startled.
Matthew had already stood up with her, yet Chloe’s face was still buried in Matthew’s chest.
He coldly faced Lucas and Lily, saying only, "Get out of my sight."
Very straightforward, and very harsh.
Uncharacteristically, the usually reticent Matthew added, "Know where you are, and don’t bring just anybody in."
After speaking, he almost didn’t give Lucas a chance to retort, turning with Chloe and entering the villa where she was.
He casually kicked the door, which shut with a "bang."
It took Lucas a moment to react, his face instantly flaring with anger.
"Matthew!" he shouted in fury.
It was the first time Lucas was so angry as to directly call out his older brother’s name.
He, Chloe, and countless others alike had a fear of Matthew.
But...
Lucas felt that Matthew was going too far, showing extreme disrespect toward his girlfriend.
Moreover, Lucas couldn’t understand Matthew’s behavior.
Matthew was the type of person who was aloof and indifferent about everything, yet he kept targeting Lily time and again.
Lucas wanted to go in and confront Matthew, but Lily hurriedly held him back, tears streaming down her face, "Lucas, please take me home, okay?"
Seeing her like this, Lucas’s heart immediately ached. He reached out to touch Lily’s face, full of guilt, "I’m sorry, for putting you through this. But I think there must be some misunderstanding my brother has about you, and I will explain when I get the chance."
"Your sister doesn’t like me," Lily smiled bitterly, then lowered her head, "She might feel that you always cared for her before and that now you have me, she’s been neglected."
Lucas frowned, understanding what Lily meant: that Chloe spoke ill of Lily in front of Matthew.
